Will Tikka come out with a 6 CM soon???

Sort of a question for you guys with 20" barrels already:

Let's say I wanted to be cheap here and I went with a basic 20" Lite version. I already have one (the youth sized Lite Compact) 20" in 6.5cm and with a ~12 ounce can on the front, it's very muzzle-heavy. The length is more than ideal but not terrible per se. The weight makes it awkward to sling-carry and as I'm not a strict backpack hunter, or even close to it, I'm really stuck on making sling-carry the default. I'd feel stupid hauling a backpack 100-300 yards to a deer stand here at home, and when I hunt public land with a daypack, I just am not set up to appreciate a rifle strapped to a pack, or even in one of the various gun-bearing gadgets other than a sling.

If I had a lighter can, say 5-8 ounces, and/or an OTB designed can that shifted the weight further back, this would be an improvement over the balance of a 20" barrel with a regular ~12 ounce can, undoubtedly. But would the difference be enough for a realistic person to say 'ok this is good enough', or would I still want to have the barrel cut to 17"-18"?

Asking because this might make a 20" barrel make more sense for me. I'm mainly trying to avoid the cost of either having a new rifle chopped or having an older rifle rebarreled.

I have no issues with a 20” Lite barrel with an OG 6.5 or similar on it. I’ll probably never strap my rifle to the pack for a normal hunt, but I was impressed with the universal carrier attached to a Teratorn holding the buttstock and the muzzle held under the chest strap.

To walk a few hundred yards I would just carry the rifle.....

But think about the barrel length as a lever and the suppressor on the end as a weight. An OTB can moving it back would make a very large difference. I cant tell you for sure that it fully solves your problem but it should drastically improve it. You would still be better off than an 18 inch barrel and a fully forward can in terms of balance point I think.

Depends on how/where you hunt. I used to have a 24” barrel with an 8” can on it. 99% of my hunting is open/steeper terrain. I wouldn’t take that in the woods

Then I cut the barrel to 18” with the 8” can. Was an improvement forsure

Now I’m using a 6” can on that 18” barrel. Lighter suppressor. Minimal improvement

For my style hunting where the rifle is mostly in either a rifle bearer like the kifaru one or strapped to my pack, the overall length didn’t really matter but it helped with overall rifle balance.

I’d get the barrel around 16-20”, short ish and light ish can and then don’t worry about it. The minimal improvement that comes from saving an ounce or two or an inch or two isn’t worth it.

I have no evidence to support this statement

I'm going to pick backorders at random when they come in and throw in hats and stickers and signed pictures of my face

Throw a 36oz scope on it, and it will balance just fine. :ROFLMAO:

I have a Minox ZP5 (36oz) on a 20" Tikka RT .243 with a Nomad Ti XC, and Stocky's VG stock. Ya, it's a heavy rifle.
