At 20", I probably won't chop. At 22", I probably will.

I also want to know when Sako will release 6 CMs. I wouldn't mind paying up for Sako refinements for my 6.

Right. I really want 18 so at 20 it might have been close enough to leave. 22 makes the decision easy. First stop will be the gunsmith.

22 is perfect. Satisfies the "don't neuter your rifle with a short barrel" crowd and satisfies the "anything longer than 16 inches is dumb" crowd. Last barrel I had cut and threaded was $100, not a big deal..

Easy hotrod! I simply stated what I would personally prefer as far as a factory barrel length. Nothing important enough to get all testy.

The Berger stability calc might shed some light on it. I’m at sea level and I would bet that a 7.5 would get it done based on my testing with 7 and 8 twist 243s. Of course it’s all speculation until we see it on paper.
