Will Tikka come out with a 6 CM soon???

Most of these companies operate as economic creatures. If they believe the numbers will justify coming out in "x" cartridge, then they will. I may be wrong, but I doubt that they track Rokslide to gauge new cartridge releases, let alone barrel length and twist.

We know that at least some companies are aware of the RokSlide (whether they like it or not), but otherwise you are correct. They are trying to make money by selling to what they see as significant markets.

They produce Tikka’s in 350 legend but not 6CM . It doesn’t make sense.

To be fair there was a handful of states that went straight wall in a small amount of time. When an entire state like say IL goes straight wall after decades of shotgun only, there’s a rush. It made sense to pounce on it.

350L is definitely still gay tho and I’m saying that as someone who owns one

Factory loaded heavies.

If Tikka doesn't release a 6CM this year I'll just buy a .243. I do wish the 95 TMK was loaded factory. Or the 95 NBT was easier to find. I hand load, but my kids are at an age right now where I'd rather not have to at this stage.

It makes perfect sense. They need an option to sell to hunters who have to use straight wall cartridges. That’s a significant enough part of the market to cater to it.

The 6CM is only “needed” by people who insist on using longer, heavier bullets in a world where a .243 with a 95-grain NBT or similar bullet will handle anything in NA out to 500 yards. I’ve got nothing against the 6CM and I probably would own one if I didn’t already have a .243, but it’s not needed.

With that said, I hope you get what you want before the heat death of the universe.

I know this is total speculation, but I’d bet $100 bill there’s more tikka rifles in the field with 6CM barrels than 350 legend, but who knows.
I’m betting on heat death of the universe first.

Based on that argument there would never be any need for innovation. Why 6.5 Creed over 6.5x55.? Why 6.5 PRC over 6.5x284? Why 7PRC over 7mm Rem Mag? There are specific reasons for preferring higher BC bullets and associated cartridges. Namely progress. The reason for the small caliber snub is the continued ignorance about terminal performance that is perpetuated through marketing.
Anyway I guess us 6mm fans will just need to buy from UM instead of Tikka!

I don’t think @Q_Sertorius is arguing against innovation. He’s saying that a company will make a calculated decision on whether the market will support the new product.

For some improved calibers, Tikka thinks the market will reward them. For others, Tikka doesn’t believe the market will reward them.

My comment has nothing to do with innovation or dislike of small bore cartridges and everything to do with how I think Tikka’s marketing and production departments approach the situation.

I’m pretty sure there is at least one 6 CM versus 1:8” twist .243 conversation around here if you want to go argue about which is better.

It was said on the 243 vs 6 CM thread in relation to this - If they started offering 6 CM, it would outsell their 243 rifles in the same platform immediately.

You'd have to go to a custom ammo manufacturer for most anything over 100 gr bullets. In Hornadys ammo, the 90gr .243 only really gives up 100 yards to the 6cm 108's in factory ammo tho. Still above 1800 fps past 650-700 yards. Wind #'s are obviously better as well. Reloading is where it's at for the heavies.
