I get the privilege of hunting all over in alot of different states, and when you get to the root of NR hate it is typically just jealousy.. I really am not sure how to fight that ... it's human nature. They are "stuck" hunting one state and I'm the prick that "lives the perceived dream".

With that said a part of the thing I love hunting all over is getting to meet locals and enjoy the different culters, 90% of "res" hunters are pretty dang awesome people.

The non resident hate on Rokslide alone is why I have pretty much reduced my interaction here to the classifieds.
Are you talking about the hate that NR's have for every other state's division of tags etc? Because ya, that hate shows through pretty much every single day on here.

Quite frankly, we have WAY bigger issues going on right now in our nation than hunting and tags. Of course it all flows down hill from the root of the problem, and the anti-hunting movement is just a by-product of that giant root.

Everybody is a resident of somewhere and a non-resident of everywhere else. Where they are a resident they have advantages. EVERYONE.

What gets someone like me who didn't care before but now does is the constant complaints from NR about how they are treated unfairly. Duh. That's how it works for every single person in 49 states. I've never tried to rally a movement to force UT or AZ to shut out a resident and give a bison tag to me instead, or KS to let me hunt elk or pronghorn. That's their stuff, their rules, and the opportunity should no doubt favor someone who lives there.

The best attitude a NR can have when looking into other states is OKAY. When I go to a friend's house for a BBQ, I don't move furniture around, hire painters, and stick them with the invoice. I enjoy the BBQ and if the angle of the couch in relation to the TV isn't what I want, I just say OKAY it's not my house. If that friends calls a week later and asks for help moving the couch, I still go help and surely do not go on a rant about how I'm only helping if I get to pick where it goes.

"We" need more people who are able to say OKAY as non-residents knowing full well they are favored in their state of residency.

Do we have any actual evidence of this anti-hunter conspiracy that's going to end hunting brought up throughout this thread? Besides you might've heard it on a forum or podcast? Because we better tell Sitka its time to hang it up.

Prove you wrong? That's easy. The influx of ultra liberal voters is what caused the wolf experiment in CO.

Changing tag allocation to 100% resident will do absolutely nothing to make CO go more conservative. That's what you're saying by increasing resident tags. It's the influx of nonhunters that don't alreadynlive there is what the problem is...

I know of easy 1% of old hunters who damn sure vote = who are moving to states (wyo) w more equatable division of licenses after the total shat show otc Colorado and allocation has become… Or the problem in reality is folks leaving just as much as them moving in.

More equatable license distribution and over crowding is why a lot of these guys are leaving in their retirement years.. Another fact..

Nr has to come around not be so self serving and selfish but believe the truth... Flat out a voting resident has more value to us all (res and nr) than a non voting nr. It is just selfish for the nr to push anything else in this current climate.

Or I agree time to get on same team and time for ALL nr to fully support and back a very fair Colorado 75/25 split minimum hard cap on all license allocations 1-4, choice, youth, landowner, and returned tags. This will require nr be less self serving, see the big picture, as its a stretch to say that nr help much in anything other than $$$ to cpw coffers…..

Or someone explain to me how nr hunters are going to sway a resident vote as to this point when it is time to vote or pony up most nr check out then complain about how votes went or allocation…

What's not to understand? Western game in particular is a finite resource with seemingly unlimited demand. I don't hate NRs at all. I've hosted a few of them on hunts here in Idaho. Having said that, I'd rather not share the woods of Idaho with most of you.

I have to work 10X harder than I did 20 years ago to kill a bull every year. In particular, I don't love that. Some of you with deeper pockets than me have leased out private property I once enjoyed but can no longer access. I don't love that. Some of you are truly TERRIBLE at hunting elk and blow out areas needlessly. I don't love that.

I'm forced to share those same woods with residents,...but I'd also love it if all of you fellow Idahoans stayed home if I'm being totally honest. It's not a resident v non-resident thing for me...it's a people thing. Anyone that says they don't feel the same is kidding themselves.

I think NR's personalize our collective desire to not have to share those limited resources we are all in pursuit of. Residents simply realize there is largely nothing they can do about their fellow residents so they exercise their ability to limit that competition via the only user group they can....non residents. You see it to a lesser extent within the resident population with archery v muzzleloader v rifle hunters all jockeying for more opportunity for themselves and less for the "other guy".

ALL of us would love to pull up to our favorite hunting spot and not have to worry about competition for those finite resources. If you say otherwise, you either (a) walk on water, of (b) are full of chit.

One final note that may or may not be directly related...it's my personal experience there is a direct correlation between how loudly a NR shouts about the "unfairness" of it all and how much their own state sucks for hunting opportunities...ie the louder they shout about how everyone should welcome NRs, the greater the likelihood their own state is devoid of hunting opportunities most of us would pay to engage in. YMMV

I dont hate NR coming and hunting but I do hate it when they compare apples to oranges. Whitetails are not the same as mule deer. You can kill more whitetails driving home from work than you can see mule deer on a 5 day hunt. 49 states have huntable populations of whitetail. 11(I think) states have huntable populations of mule deer. It just simply not the same.

I would understand the plight of NR if the states residents they complained about had tags coming out their ears but they dont. I have heard people complain about not drawing elk tags in Utah, well guess what 8 years and counting for me too.

Personally, I dont think the split of R vs NR tags would solve the complaining. If we went 80/20 everywhere, in 10-15 years it would be the same drone and it should be 70/30.

How many of the NR show up to help when projects are being done? I live close to two borders (less than an hour) and have helped with a handful of habitat projects, and Hobbs is the only nonresident I have seen show up. This is in a unit that a NR has good odds of getting a deer tag.

The bottom line of it is this. Wildlife is held in trust for the resident of each State. The State owes proper management and access to it for it citizens. A State owes nothing to a nonresident.

Now, what could someone do to help with the issues...A national 501C4 that could lobby and use its resources to influence States would be something someone should look at.

So you’re ok with the NR whining about tag allocations, but you’re not ok with the R whining about tag allocation? Got it…

Have you hunted otc and low point units? Look at 61 and 62. They’re separated by a dirt road. One side is the 5th best unit in the state, and the other side is garbage.
I have. Multiple years in fact.
One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Get rid of ALL the nonresidents in otc and low point units and in 3-4 years with less hunting pressure, more rag horns surviving, etc these units would be awesome!

Awesome hunting would lead to more people taking up hunting, and more hunters moving to Colorado to take advantage of the opportunity.

I’m starting to like this idea more and more.
If you want the easy button go ahead. You do you.

I'm one of those people, in the sense of "pulling up to my favorite spot", I could care less if there is someone there. There's a really really really good chance I'll have a good attitude about it and give them my inreach/cell/camp location in case they need help, or want free advice on that particular "spot". I am in the field to have fun and having a poopoo attitude about something takes a dump on the fun part. My reality is that if I am growing and learning as a hunter, I should be able to have fun trying to whack something in any of the other "spots" I scouted or have been curious about. There's no set of horns or antlers out there that can take away my attitude.

I think my own viewpoint is also why it is difficult for me to understand why there is such a fuss over how a state favors its own residents. If a person is in Indiana where there's a "deer license bundle" what a cool opportunity to hunt. Why might that person care about what Colorado does for license allocation to the point of wanting to oppose it? It doesn't make sense to me that so many people want to look over the fence to complain about their neighbor's yard, but will loose their marbles when the HOA shows up at their doorstep.

For the record, I'd give up deer and elk hunting in my state of residency to have the same number of tags for Pronghorn in various states every year. It doesn't work that way though, and I am OKAY with it.

Sweet...then I assume you'll have no problem sharing your waypoints with everyone here since you could care less if others share it with you.

Are you a woman?
Cause umm did I say that?

I want people to shut the F and and stack bodies.
And if they are not good enough hunter's to do that they should quit.

Everyone needs to quit being a bunch of tofu farting, identify wussy ass turds and put the boots to the ground.

Vote in silence for your preference.
But all the bitching on the internet combined isn't gonna move the goal post at all.
