Why the huge increase in Idaho NR hunters?

There are still 5000 tags left. It’s the same number so nothing changes other than spreading it out more.

5000 OTC elk tags?

I just checked. There’s a little over 1,600. . .

That is the total posted, but when you actually add up the remaining tags not on the "SOLD OUT" list, it comes out to 1753...I dont know. What I do know is that residents will never sniff a second tag ever again. I should have appreciated more that I was living the "good ol' days."

The 5606 number was last updated on Dec 4, four days ago. My guess is that the individual zone quotas that currently add up to 1753 are more directly linked tot he purchasing site and is the real number of remaining tags.

Look at the post above

Add the numbers up of remaining tags.

I just added it all up again. There are now 1620 tags left, there were 1621 when I made my original post. The 5k number is about 4 days behind. .

These tag counts are NOT updated in real-time and are subject to corrections. However, we are posting Sold Out zones as they are known.

Tag counts last updated 12/4/2020 at 5:26pm MDT

Sounds good. Still 1621 tags left still not sold out. In reality does it matter either some one buys one or they don’t . Still the same amount of nr tags as years past

The comments on goHunt's video are so full of entitlement. I don't understand people feeling entitled to an elk tag just because they pay federal taxes. If you want to be guaranteed a hunt, live in that state. They just can't wrap their heads around resident hunters having priority. If it chaps ass that much, move to said state.

I lived in Idaho and hunted as a resident, but just because I paid federal taxes I never felt entitled to hop in my truck and head down to Kaibab or Gila and help myself to an elk. If those units were that important to me I'd live in Arizona, New Mexico, etc. Having access to federal lands is much different than being entitled to a state's elk/deer herd if you aren't a resident of that state.

i think part of the discrepancies on available numbers is the Outfitter Tags, There may be 5000 tags NR available but only 1600 can be direct purchased by Non Residents . at least thats what i got out of a blurb i read somewhere . Was lucky to get a tag for a backup location . my first choice sold out in about 15 minutes.
Long term it will be a good change (and will probably come to Residents at somepoint) but the way it worked this year made it really challenging for hunting partners/Families to make sure they all got their tags. Easy for a Dad to buy his tag and then be sold out by the time his kid got to purchase theirs.

My hunting partners bought theirs and when i got in, there were only 8 left. if i had been just a few more in line, they would have gone without me . system needs a slight tweak to allow for hunting parties

The guys at GOHUNT seem to be super pissed about it in the video they posted, I guess he didn't get the special tag he wanted. Kind of ironic since GH has messed up NR hunting anyways.
Not sure which video you watched but Brady says multiple times he got the unit he wanted, he just wouldn't say which unit it was.

2020 has to be a record for tag sales for elk. They have almost sold out non resident twice in 2020 (2020 and 2021 seasons). Banner year in revenue from tags.

Would I be wrong in assuming that tags that will go to non residents in the controlled drawings in the spring are also part of the 12,000 nd something total tags allocated to non residents?

I was trying to add it all up a few days ago also I’m guessing it is say for example
9000 otc elk tags quotaed out to each zone
2000 outfitter tags for various zones
1000 controlled hunt to go to non residents

All these add up to the total of nonresident tags?
