Domestic migration to California has been happening since the 19th century, but it’s not what made California different during your or my lifetime, and the state hasn’t had a steady net positive on domestic migration in 35 years.

My grandparents were among several hundred thousand that migrated from Oklahoma to California in the 1920s, back when it was apparent why Orange County had its name. Inter-state migration in the first half of the 20th century is largely responsible for making California into the paradise it was in the mid 20th century.

Yea conservatives are moving to ID/MT. But from my perspective a lot of them are shitty entitled neighbors. Zero humility, and they are turning every dirt road into pavement. The list goes on. They are assholes conservative or not, stick out like a sore thumb. Changing everything to match their posh HOA neighborhood they left. They should act like any good 1st gen immigrant should and adapt to the local culture. Instead they slap a Trump bumper sticker on and think that works.

This makes me laugh. I am a Cal transplant and I have had the exact opposite experience. I have had 4x the complaints from my entitled Idaho boomer HOA neighbors (who half goto AZ in the winter). Some of them proudly have anti trump bumper stickers.

There’s something about moving into a nice neighborhood where the lots are all 2+ acres and then get multiple complaints in the past 6 months for:
- having my travel trailer parked out front because it’s late fall. I learned that they have an unspoken rule that RVs are ok during summer even though the official rule is 2 weeks per year. I keep it in covered storage during the winter
- having some stuff outside a month after moving into a newly built house. this was a passive aggressive comment at the HOA meeting where they said “they are settling in and im sure they will have things cleaned up”
- last month i put totes and garden tools on the side of my house because it was on my flatbed, which I used to cut firewood. the firewood was sitting out. my neighbor came by a week later to complain to my wife. If he caught me I would have said “yea it’s a mess I will clean it up asap” if I was around. But the fun part: he kept going off to my wife about how my truck is always parked outside and our garage door is always open. the only related rule in our hoa: no broken down vehicles. I have a clean 2500 with low miles. The neighbor did say that my firewood mess was “understandable” because people cut firewood around here. no shit, I just cut 1.5 cords of old growth larch and had split them 2 days prior! I happen to have two young kids, a full time job and a new business!

Not everyone moving from California is FROM California. I just moved from SoCal to Vegas after 5 years. There are some great people in CA…not enough, but there are. Not everyone in CA is a commie or weirdo either. Places like Murrieta and Temecula are as good as it gets. Unfortunately, politics, taxes, homelessness, BS gun laws, etc. have ruined CA. It’s a shame. It’s a beautiful place.

Went to Idaho to hunt with my brother and parked on the streets after driving 16 hours lady bitched me out before walking up the drive way. I would never live in an hoa I would also never have neighbors that close. He is always in some kind of pissing match with them it just no use of common sense. I don't think your problem is with McCall, even though they've become Ketchum Lite ever since Tamarak moved in. I think your real problem is with your overbearing HOA.

You might have forgotten the winter of 2016 and 2017 in the Treasure Valley. I'd invite you to research the term "Snowmagedon" to learn that it was a record breaking year for snowfall. 31.9 inches that winter with 21 inches in January alone. Pretty harsh winter for these parts.

16-17 was epic in central id, salmon river run off was nuts.

I understand people disliking the SF or LA and I get that they want to leave the terribly ran areas but why don’t you move to north California? Closer to Oregon and Nevada. I have been in that region and it’s a vast, massive place with amazing nature and a few people. I am pretty sure it hunting is decent there.

I know of a few small game hunters who live there and they seem to hunt game and places I can only see in my dreams.

My perspective is absolutely limited but I am just very curious.

I have a trailer park two hundred feet to my left and a subsidized apartment complex across the street. Everyone keeps to themselves and is respectful. I think our street is one of the best kept secrets in town. No whiny homeowner would ever consider living here. And I have an incredible view of the mountains.

To your point, I prefer what is considered lower class blue collar for neighbors. I guess I'm just a redneck deep down.
