Why Haven’t All Of The CA and Transplants From Other States That Moved To WY,MT,ID Stayed After Many Winters And Not Moved Back?

Fwiw, I know a dozen families that have moved out of California to Idaho, Montana, and Tennessee. All are solid Conservatives that hate the hypocrite Dem politicians running CA.

None have come back….which is not good for those of us that stay and fight Newsom the presidential front runner for the Dem party in the next election.

And the vast majority of them will vote for every levy increase.

Just saying.

Snowbirds, we have a ton on Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and Canadian's that winter down in Southern Az. They don't hack the winters, they just come down here.;)

So much derp. Maybe most people moving to ID/WY/MT aren't from the Bay Area or Southern CA?

Maybe its people like me who grew up in Tahoe and think 10 months of Summer sucks?

Maybe some people actually like seasons and cold and Winter?

Maybe 2 seasons is boring?

I'm sitting here in central Idaho with a blue sky day and no snow on the ground with my kids asking when is it ever going to snow and when can we start skiing?

I for one, as a lifelong Californian until 4 years ago.....hate california weather. So boring. Unless you're talking mountain weather, where we used to measure snow in FEET instead of inches here in Idaho. On the upside, the temperature is a couple clicks lower on average so our snow sticks around longer.

Anyways, I think the "wait until we get a real Winter!" is laughable. My friends from Texas however.......yeah they moved back to Boise (hot)!

What statistics???? I don't have any numbers but from what I see most people moving from places like CA and NY keep voting liberal. Look at cities like Boise, Bozeman, states like AZ, CO and many others. Do you think it is people born and raised in these places that are changing the political demographics or new people moving in? From what I have seen people who think they are conservative in CA move away because of the insanity and when they see real conservative values go back to voting liberal.
My Bay Area buddy always talks like this, laughs that me and another buddy are soon-to-be-screwed because all the Californians moving to Boise and Idaho in general.

It's been shown that majority moving to Idaho are conservative, confirmed recently by official voter registration stats.

So anyways, I'm sure NM is different (hunted there twice, beautiful but total 3rd world state) but here in ID/MT/WY we are getting MORE red with people moving here not less.

Lack of affordability is a big one.

Here in SD you need an income of $275k/yr to afford the average house. It's killing my friends in their 30's trying to raise a family.

Idaho Sun showed 75% CA residents moving there are Republican. *All* my friends that moved there vote red and it's quite a substantial amount.

Financially it’s hard to move back. Prices are higher than ever. They couldn’t afford the home they left behind, they’d have to downsize or rent something small.

And some older people I know that have moved their just sit inside with the heater on all winter watching tv.
I think this is a big factor, hard to leave your 6,000 sqft house to go back to a 1300 sqft house in an area that’s probably not as nice, that coastal money did a number on the west… feel like the transplant madness has slowed some, likely because all the west’s prices have really skyrocketed and the CA and NY prices have leveled out… someone else referenced this

Facts, back in 2011-2019 when Cali prices were 2-5x of everywhere else i think a lot of secondary homes were purchased

Yea conservatives are moving to ID/MT. But from my perspective a lot of them are shitty entitled neighbors. Zero humility, and they are turning every dirt road into pavement. The list goes on. They are assholes conservative or not, stick out like a sore thumb. Changing everything to match their posh HOA neighborhood they left. They should act like any good 1st gen immigrant should and adapt to the local culture. Instead they slap a Trump bumper sticker on and think that works.

It has been my observation that those with the loudest voices against CA transplants are also themselves CA transplants, but for some reason they are supposedly different because they made the move at a time when it was acceptable.

I was born in Chicago but grew up in MT.. Work kept me out west most of my earlier career spending more time in WY and CO. I experienced significant population growth but nothing like the past 6-8 years.

I understand most people being able to handle CO’s pretty mild winters and not moving away after a few winters. What I don’t understand is the CA and other crowd who have moved to WY and MT and have not left due to the extreme cold, severe and constant wind and very very long winters. I can remember winter blizzards in Bozeman where I had to shovel my Landcruiser out of my driveway to limp into town for groceries only to return one hour later and get high centered in the new snow in my recently plowed/shoveled driveway. Wyoming where I spent a week every month had some of the most dangerous and frequent high wind conditions on the planet, blowing semis over on I80 and I25, along with the same long very severe cold winters as MT.

I was surprised and totally wrong in my predictions. I thought for sure a real estate bubble had been created and these implants wouldn’t be able to put their homes on the market for sale fast enough after the first bad WY, MT winter. Many of the transplants are now going on 7-8 years in their new environment. Is there no signs of an exodus out of MT and WY? Is this the new normal? I definitely have been wrong in my predictions so far.Do a high percentage of these transplants have a second or third home? What other factors have kept the growth in MT and WY?
Being born and raised here in California, I can say how much I hate living here. Higher cost of living, higher taxes. If we did have an old established farm i would definitely move. Yes we have great weather, but that's not enough today.

Probably because it's beautiful and amazing and worth putting up with the winter. The real a question is why do they continue to vote the same.
