This is probably the best reason to welcome folks to the Rockies.Yup, statistically transplants vote conservative at a higher rate than the places they move too.

^^This...Contrary to popular belief, it’s mostly conservative people that are abandoning the coastal cities, not the “snowflakes”. So your average transplant is a little more resilient than you might think. The winters might be a bit of an adjustment for them ( mainly the driving) but they’re usually showing up with a big bankroll after selling their houses and paying cash for a more affordable house further inland. They can afford to pay for things like snow removal, firewood, etc. Also, people don’t have to travel to the nearest city on bad winter roads if they don’t want to. They can order everything online now and pick it up at the post office. It’s not as hard to live in the West, or anywhere for that matter, as it used to be.
What statistics???? I don't have any numbers but from what I see most people moving from places like CA and NY keep voting liberal. Look at cities like Boise, Bozeman, states like AZ, CO and many others. Do you think it is people born and raised in these places that are changing the political demographics or new people moving in? From what I have seen people who think they are conservative in CA move away because of the insanity and when they see real conservative values go back to voting liberal.Yup, statistically transplants vote conservative at a higher rate than the places they move too.
We are from Massachusetts. That state is a nuts as California, might be worse. I'd make most montanans look like they are liberal. Like my mother said, I was born 100 years too late. I agree, most people moving out here are quite conservative. But not just how we vote, but how we live. It's why we moved. This so called modern world is not for us. Many of us don't have big bank rolls. We just said screw it, we will make it work. We prefer less things and cherish time as a family.Contrary to popular belief, it’s mostly conservative people that are abandoning the coastal cities, not the “snowflakes”. Hey now I live in So Cal and never been called a sissy or weirdo. They do look at me strangely when im in a camo shirt with my vortex hat on. But you are correct these folks are strange indeed. My work takes me to all the rich areas and these people are definitely weird. I bought here years ago and we are planning on selling and moving within a couple years after I retire. I live in a smallYou’ve got SF Bay Area and greater LA area in Ca. That’s where all the sissies and weirdos are. The rest of the vast state are pretty normal people and lots of country. The cities make all the rules, the good people get fed up and leave. Not everyone here has blue hair and rides a surf board to work. My aunt and uncle moved to N. Idaho in the mid 2000s before it was cool. They are two of the most country/self sufficient people you could ever meet.
I would say that may be true for WY, ID, and MT as those states have trended more solidly red. However, CO is the opposite, it has literally become a single party blue state, similar to China or Venezuela. Conservative republicans in state government might need to be listed on the endangered species list. Transplants aren’t a monolith, they move for different reasons. CO has an urban metro which is what those transplants were looking for. In Colorado you had 4 millionaire/billionaire progressive leftist political donors who decided to change the state back in the early 2000’s. They succeeded. It required millions of dollars in campaign spending for Dem candidates and a large influx of urban transplants from other states.Yup, statistically transplants vote conservative at a higher rate than the places they move too.
Another perspective (though not CA related) to move to the Rockies is that if you live in the gulf south and spend 8-10 months a year escaping the heat/humidity inside with AC.Financially it’s hard to move back. Prices are higher than ever. They couldn’t afford the home they left behind, they’d have to downsize or rent something small.
And some older people I know that have moved their just sit inside with the heater on all winter watching tv.
