Why Haven’t All Of The CA and Transplants From Other States That Moved To WY,MT,ID Stayed After Many Winters And Not Moved Back?

Yup, statistically transplants vote conservative at a higher rate than the places they move too.

It's Texans moving to Montana, not Californians. How about we dispel that myth once and for all.

Hopefully the wildfire smoke will send some of them packing. Been several years since we had a really smoky summer. They haven't seen how much it can suck!

I've given up all hope for this place though. After 40+ years I'm looking for my new nirvana.

Contrary to popular belief, it’s mostly conservative people that are abandoning the coastal cities, not the “snowflakes”. So your average transplant is a little more resilient than you might think. The winters might be a bit of an adjustment for them ( mainly the driving) but they’re usually showing up with a big bankroll after selling their houses and paying cash for a more affordable house further inland. They can afford to pay for things like snow removal, firewood, etc. Also, people don’t have to travel to the nearest city on bad winter roads if they don’t want to. They can order everything online now and pick it up at the post office. It’s not as hard to live in the West, or anywhere for that matter, as it used to be.

People fleeing the cities come and go around me. Most are retirees and remote tech's.

The last 5 years has seen a wave of Amish move in and they're tenacious enough its just another winter to them.

A common thing among Amish is to spend the coldest weeks in Florida if they can afford it or don't have livestock to care for.

What statistics???? I don't have any numbers but from what I see most people moving from places like CA and NY keep voting liberal. Look at cities like Boise, Bozeman, states like AZ, CO and many others. Do you think it is people born and raised in these places that are changing the political demographics or new people moving in? From what I have seen people who think they are conservative in CA move away because of the insanity and when they see real conservative values go back to voting liberal.

We are from Massachusetts. That state is a nuts as California, might be worse. I'd make most montanans look like they are liberal. Like my mother said, I was born 100 years too late. I agree, most people moving out here are quite conservative. But not just how we vote, but how we live. It's why we moved. This so called modern world is not for us. Many of us don't have big bank rolls. We just said screw it, we will make it work. We prefer less things and cherish time as a family.

I'm not saying we don't have our share of the man bun crowd, but I think that is driven largely by the college population. Too bad colleges don't limit students to in state only

The days of selling your 2000 square ft tract home here in CA and buying something twice the size for half the cost elsewhere are long gone. Anyone getting out of here now is doing so very purposefully, and a "tough winter" would have factored into their decision on whether to go to Montana vs say, Tennessee. I live in one of the many conservative counties outside of the major population centers in LA/SF and aside from the taxes, most of Newscum's socialist fantasies don't affect my day to day. For me, the math on moving just doesn't math when factoring in all opportunity costs

Financially it’s hard to move back. Prices are higher than ever. They couldn’t afford the home they left behind, they’d have to downsize or rent something small.

And some older people I know that have moved their just sit inside with the heater on all winter watching tv.
