Why All the Comments Saying 8x Binos for Archery

I'm the opposite. I didn't become concerned with trophy size until I started archery hunting. Now I'm pretty picky and pass on bulls every year. Even for deer......if I was going to go to the effort of stalking within bow range of a buck, it had better be worth my while.

So you must hunt with traditional gear then?

I’ve owned and used 8, 8.5, 10 & 12’s extensively (for years). I finally feel like I have my bino situation dialed in for me.

I now own a set of 8x32’s that are used for mountain hunting and some stand hunting for whitetail. They are lightweight and they are as good (to my eye) in every respect as my 8.5x42’s were. If I’m headed into an area that I may need to glass long distances then the STX goes into the pack.

If weight isn’t as much of an issue and I’m hunting areas that are more open then the 12x50’s are on my chest.

It’s all personal preference and situational.

Why 8’s? Weight, FOV, depth, etc. Plus, a quality set of 8’s doesn’t lose much of anything compared to a set of 10’s.

Hell, I use 6x32's for everything as my main binos. I do have a couple pair of 8x32's, 7x30's and a boat anchor pair of 12x50's that stay in the truck. Just don't have the opportunity to glass 1/2 mile or more away where I hunt, maybe 5-600 yds. I'm not judging trophy status either. Don't shoot that far either. Like 5miles said, easier on the eyes searching through timber for elk or deer with lower power. At least for me.
