Rough day today. We didn't get up as early as we should have which made the hike out brutal. 99° when we got to the truck. Over the last two days we have seen 12 deer, 5 of them bucks. The biggest being the one I posted pictures of. We did 16 miles of overland hiking and entered our area from two new directions which both provide new glassing spots depending on wind direction.

Pretty sure this is where I will spend my time this season. There are many more deer in this area including large bucks, we just were not able to glass at first and last light so no pictures of them, but I know they are there.

Find of the day.

Pretty awesome, huh? I was excited. Found the bones first an searched around to find him. Pretty sure he died last Fall.

Getting ready for a Utah LE elk hunt. My brother has a tag. We have had cameras up in this area for a while and found some good bulls for the unit.CA9B3323-3DE5-46CE-88F4-8E1A132FB2C5.png

I’m not scouting OTC units in protest of not drawing the controlled tag I wanted.

Jk
Rookie question,
If scouting in July, will that correspond to where they are in October? Pending hunting pressure and all that good stuff?

My unit opens Sept 1 and the deer there now will be there until late in the season unless other hunters blow them out. I will not be back until late August.

Not out scouting for deer since we didn’t draw any deer tags this year but my son took pictures of this buck from the back porch yesterday evening. There was a smaller buck with him also.

Two weeks ago saw about 30 deer, 16 of them bucks in a hay field about a mile from the house. Bad drought this year is bringing a lot of deer to the river bottom.
