About 4 years ago I was in your shoes. Hate mummy bags, my wide shoulders don't fit well and I like to sleep on my side.

I tired a bunch, finally settled on Western Mountaineering. Not cheap, I think I paid no more than $700 back then. Love the bag, plenty warm.

If you find an alternative solution, let me know.

Want a wide semi rectangular/mummy down bag with a 0 degree rating. Who other than Western Mountaineering makes one? Would prefer to not spend $1200.
Since we just laucnhed our Alpine 0 bag, just wanted to put it on your radar.

I don’t want the whole bed thingy. Just a bag.

You mean you think you want a mummy bag … until you try the zen! -lol

Sadly I don’t have a promo/follower/influencer code for you. They run sales yearly.

I attach the “bed sheet” permanently to the quilt. It attaches to the pad 10x easier than the old BA system. The quilt is pre set into the configuration I use 99% of the time and compared to just a mummy bag being thrown on top of a pad I probably spend an extra 30 seconds getting my bag system on the pad.

It will change your life SD!

Stone Glacier guys, I’m having a tough time comparing their measurements. Most companies tend to list measurements as circumference. For example, Western Mountaineering shows shoulder circumference as 66”. Yes SG, only lists width at 32”. How do those compare?

Yes, I remember some basic Jr High geometry and if that width on the SG was a true circle’s diameter I could compute and equate circumference, but it’s not.

Is there any way to fairly compare the two measurements? I’ve asked SG’s CS but no answer and I’m running out of time. I need to make an order soon.

Nemo Stalker - i am 6’5” 250 and have plenty of room. Nemos bags are spacious, I have a few of them in different temp ratings.

You probably know it already but if you sleep cold rather than focusing on your sleeping bag or quilt, add a good bivy and a very high r value sleeping pad.

Rab mountain gear makes just what you are looking for at a reasonable price. I bought one but haven't get to use it yet.

There is at a minimum an inch on the sides of the sg bag. I tried to measure the bag but my 60” fish tape fell very short.

Yes. My tape only goes to 60. I had a good size gap at the end of my tape after I wrapped it around. I tried measuring the sides but I couldn’t get anything solid. I guessed and tried to be very conservative in that guesstimate.
So, my public school smrts says: 32+32+2

That’s very helpful. Thanks.

I believe WM measures their girth on the inside of the bag. My 67" kodiak is way more roomier than my 32" Eureka.

I just ordered a Big Agnes Anvil Horn in 0 degree. Like the OP I was looking for a roomy 0 degree bag too. I hear BA is liberal with their temp ratings so I will have to see how close to 0 degrees it actually is. I contacted BA support and the person said they are rated for a 10 degree comfort rating. It arrives tomorrow so I will hopefully have time to test out this weekend. I paid less that $300 for mine. Definitely not WM quality but if it gets me close to 10 degrees or so I will be happy.

I ended up returning this bag because I hated the zipper on it and it also didn’t feel like it will be very warm. It seems like manufacturers really struggle to offer any mummy sleeping bags that are wide enough for us larger people. I just picked up a western mountaineering sequoia bag that I am thinking about returning because that too is not wide enough for my shoulders. It’s tight enough that I can’t have my arms by my side without causing cold spots by compressing the bag so much. I think for my body type a quilt is probably gonna be the best it will get. I have a UGQ bandit quilt that’s 10° and I really like it a lot. I was just hoping to find something that would keep me a little bit warmer in the late season hunts, but I guess I will use my quilt and bundle up with my puffy pants and jacket.

I've been using a Nemo 15 degree bag for the past couple season because of the roominess. Can't speak to their 0 degree offerings but the 15 is only comfy down to about 32 and that's with wearing a bunch of clothes inside it. But the space is fantastic. Probably also the reason it sleeps cold. Also their warranty is great, I busted out the zipper seam in my sleep one night. Checked to see if I could pay them to repair it and they just sent me a brand new bag.

I am a bigger guy, not taller. I have found the Outdoor Vitals wide bag to be one of the better options for width vs weight. You'll have to get the longer bag to get the width, but I just put my clothes at the bottom of the bag so I wake up with warm clothing to wear.

Thanks I will check them out. What temp bag did you get and do you feel the ratings are accurate?
