Which iPad mini?

I was going to get my wife an iPad mini for Christmas, not sure which one to get and of course looking for a deal…
Primarily used for surfing, she doesn't get on the desktop at all,
It will be used only with Wi-Fi and and will rarely leave the house, I can't see why huge amount of storage would be a big plus for surfing.
I'm not sure if getting the latest model is worth the extra money.
Any suggestions? Thanks

If its mostly going to be used for surfing, you can save a pile of cash by going with an android tablet, or a kindle fire. Ive got an old ipad 2 that still handles a surf session just fine considering its "age".

If it was for my own use, it wouldnt take me long to decide against a new ipad mini for surfing.

The reason for considering the mini was we used one at a friends house liked the size, part2o my wife's familiar with the format because she has an iPhone. Thanks for the input

Get an iPad mini, it'll last longer and have fewer issues then an android based tablet. My wife has gone through three crappy Samsung tablets to my one iPad mini inn the last 5 years.

I have the wifi model and love it.

Was a longtime android and pc user and this summer switched to an iphone and an ipad pro 9.7. I'm using it for surfing, email, and reading on the kindle app. It has worked really well for me.
