I just got an Inreach SE+ and I'm trying to decide on which plan to go with.

I'll be using it primarily only September-November to stay in touch with my family while I'm out of cell range. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I use my phone for maps and GPS.

Thanks

What plan works for you? I tried the Freedom plan but would forget to suspend the subscription or something would come up and I would turn it back on, finally came to the realization that I have this $300 + piece of hardware that could save me some day so I should be using it and keeping it around so I just switched to the Recreation plan at $25 a month instead of paying for the same plan at $35 a month. I take my inreach on road trips, camping trips and scouting trips even if I know I have good cell coverage for most of it as a backup plan.

I don't change plans when my usage will go over the 40 texts a month on my current plan. I figured it out and to move up one plan then pay the $25 to down grade to the next lower plan comes out to $50, well at $.50 a text after 40 texts I can send 100 extra texts before changing plans saves me any money and 140 total texts is a ton for me. Only time I ever use over 40 texts might be the 3 to 4 weeks during hunting season.

I have the basic 10text freedom plan, if you do the math at $0.50 text you're just prepaying for texts you may or maynot use with the other plans for the most part. So unless you plan to go nuts on it (in which case get the unlimited) just get the cheap one and coach up your recipients to be strategic in there replies and maximize the usage of those free preset messages.

This. Unlimited pre-set messages for check ins and in the heavy use weeks, I still come out money ahead. Just my preference.

I might just have to switch to the safety plan since anymore if I want to track I end up using the phone GPS to lay down track points since it's better then every 10 minutes.

I use the cheap safety plan and leave it on year round. if I go fishing or just out hiking I can carry it. last week we went to robbers cave in Oklahoma and I carried it on the horse. I did not send any messages last week as my love was with me. but even on a long hunt I can use the presets and rarely go over my limit. if I go over a few bucks, so what? I save a bunch and get to use it often this way.

This for me also. I may switch to the annual plan, but it will still be the cheapest plan.

Safety plan for me. Use presets as much as psossible. Hike ridges to use my cell. Family doesn’t send lots of dumb texts. I didn’t know 3rd party plans were available for InReach.

I just got the annual unlimited text plan for me. 3/4 of my state doesn’t have cell coverage and it’s easier for me to not remember when to turn on/off coverage. I’ve had 40 texts used up in one conversation before when solo in the tent on the sheep mountain.
