Which bino harness?

I have used the RY harness for 3 years now, the cord is still as strong as the day I bought it. Weighs 1 oz and holds my heavy swaro ELR 10x42 very well. I like the way it glides up the cord but even better is the adjustment. It holds the cord even on each loop so its never out of balance and I can adjust it on the fly walking. Wet or dry makes no diff. I saw the review in Sports Afield last year. Check it out! i think it was June issue

The Ultra Light Harness by Rick Young holds them tight to my chest and still pulls up EZ for viewing. Its all in the design of the hardware and strength of shock cord

I do like the idea of having Paul @ FHF making me a custom bino harness, something like what was mentioned earlier with protection for the sides. Also I think that ASAT would look really nice! Thanks for all the advice guys and gals, I do appreciate it

I checked out the website for the rick young harness, where is the protection for your expensive glass? I understand they are light but I personally want some protection from the elements when I'm wearing my swarovski's around my neck, like the badlands do. Just my 2 cents, but I'll take the extra weight in order to protect my glass.

Check out Becca's post no. 28 on this thread, good protection but half the weight of the Badlands.

I checked it out, and I really do like the fhf, but they are not sealed. So dust can get inside as well as other elements, even though they say the glass is protected, I still would want the entire bino sealed away from the elements. If they were sealed, I would have bought them tonight!

Use the Rick Young and buy the Cabelas Binocular Soft cover for $20 total price $45 and you have a cover with excellent retention

I don't know how much my Badlands case was initially, but it is only 8 oz now even with a small carabiner retaining clip to secure it in the closed position when I'm riding and falling off of my mountain bike. I tore a lot of crap off of it however right after I got it and had to do a little hand sewing. This 8 oz that it weighs now is also without the straps/harness, because I just clip it right onto my Kifaru Timberline pack straps. The Badlands harness/staps is another 4 oz.

If there is one thing that backpackers are good at it is cutting ounces.lol. According to Wholesale Sports catalog the Badlands bino case and harness starts life at one pound 8 ounces.

I bought a fhf. And feel the same as above. I wish it was completely enclosed. The search continues

I have the FHF and it is the most protection I have ever had for my binos. It covers both ends and keeps them dry in the rain. I don't see any reason to have them completely sealed. Just my opinion. I would just like to figure out a way to get the same harness and cover at half the weight. That to me would be the ideal setup.

Try Sitka's harness. Very comfortable, id even venture to say its more comfortable than the FHF. I do have the fhf now and am undecided wether I like it more than the Sitka yet or not.

Do u have the new version of the Sitka? Do the magnets work. Is it quiet. My fhf is very well built. Just a little noisy and I really like the idea of magnets. My fly fishing vest is magnet based and it is very efficient. Meaning the magnets work without exception

The One I had worked great, magnets worked pretty good, without any loud clipping sound. Mine was a couple years old. Very comfortable that's for sure. I just wanted to try the fhf so I ended up selling it. I should have kept it. The material was adequately quiet, a little more quiet than cordura. The only downside about the Sitka is bigger glass will not fit, and I would have liked a few teathers to hold my binos once out rather than just a bungee cord.

I cant say anything bad about the fhf though either. Construction is a bit more robust on the fhf.

There is a like new sitka gear bino case on huntwa forum classifieds for 75.00, just letting you guys know. I got put on the list for the new kuiu cases when they come out, they are not completly enclosed but pretty close and at only around 80 some dollars its worth a try.

Just weighed my Badlands Bino harness at 15.2 oz. Thats unaltered with the water bladder sack intact, as you would receive it from the store
As the one guy described there are Lots of places to shave ounces off the harness if you wanted to. Just never bothered doing anything to mine. Had them for a few years now on some nasty weathered Sheep hunts. The comfort wearing, ease of use, and protection they have afforded my glass on those trips, is well worth the little extra weight in my world. They will be heading out with me again this Sept in Northern BC for my Dall ;)

Last year bought the FHF harness. I liked it, protected fine, till the hood latch fell apart. When i ordered it they asked which bino I had and sent the harnes knowing my dimensions. When it got here it worked BUT.... there was ALOT of stress on the latch/chord and it eventually failed(fell apart). Had to go into town and get an upholstery shop to sew it back together. I do like the product better now but had to add $35 for the fix. Have to say it is waaaaay better than the crappy bino harness i had for years.

Wannahunt,

Silly question probably, but did you untie the bungee cord knot and adjust it to make it a little looser? I had to do that on my medium harness for my 10x45 Zeiss.
