I ordered an MKC speed goat and a Sharptailed this year.

I love the sharptailed, its fine as a bird knife though you dont really need much for upland birds. I also used it to field dress, skin, and break down a whitetail and it did a super good job at that. It was getting a touch dull right at the end and likely could have used a touch up part way through the breakdown but did just fine without it. I tend to like smaller blades like that for more control.

Im kind of mehhh... on the speedgoat. Its a nice blade but I dont love the paracord handle. I might send it down the road, or keep for backpacking / canoe trips where its seeing less serious use but where I care about the weight savings.

Im pretty sure I am getting a blackfoot for Christmas which I think will pair nicely with the sharptailed as a pair to take hunting.

I also always have a kershaw leek on me though dont tend to use it on game.

I did a search for "leatherman" in this thread and was shocked that I didn't find anyone talking about the Leatherman Klamath or Nehalem. I'd put up money that it's the finest, most useful, hunting knife ever made. So, of course, they discontinued it. I bought a few, in case I live multiple lifetimes, and they can still be found on eBay for $500-$600. It was $100 retail.

Stays razor sharp, deer after deer, and the gut hook absolutely unzips them like a lightsaber. The dull nose on the gut hook means it won't pierce anything else while you're at it. (I see lots of knives that have gut hooks on the blade, but you've still got a sharp end in there.

The blade is also heavy enough to cut through the rib cage cartilage if that's part of your process. (I rarely do). Being able to retract the gut hook and fold up the blade when either is not in use is great.

I can't believe no one else has duplicated this design.
