Whoever has the taper you want in stock. I call a few clearinghouse types and work with what they have.....or wait for a couple of seasons for the maker you want.

For a 600 yd gun....every maker should be adequate +P.

You can’t go wrong with any of those. I’d just get whatever you can find in stock.

Kreiger, Hawk Hill, & Bartlein are my three top choices. I have used more Kreigers than any other.

If I only wanted a single point cut barrel those three would be my first picks. My choice for a button rifled barrel is Hart.

I’ve used all three. My preference is Bartlein but have done a lot of Krieger and have now used a couple of Brux for smokeless muzzleloaders. If all I could get was Brux or Krieger I’d use them in a heartbeat. Bartlein tends to be straighter (bore) setting up in the lathe than Krieger but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. The Brux are pretty impressive. The bore and lapping are beautiful to look at. I’ll be using more of them.

Ok I seem to be on the same page with my barrel choice. Now let’s look at contour and twist? Again this is a mtn Elk rifle 600 yard max. Probably going to start with factory ammunition. Would like to hand load eventually. Finished length is 20”.

Bartlein, Krieger and Hawk Hill have all been good barrels. Krieger have typically run the fastest per caliber for me, but Bartlein and Hawk Hill have always been good barrels. I have used more Bartleins than anything especially considering the Impact by Stuteville barrels are all Bartlein.

I looked on their website last night, and it appears Hawk Hill is in the process of selling their barrel making equipment. Bummer......

I have only bought one aftermarket barrel so not a comparison but I have an all steel bartlein on my 6.5 and it has shot lights out since the first round.

I primarily use Kreiger and Bartlein. Both are good and I have had no issues cutting chambers on either, and they all shot well. I put a Shilen on my 300 PRC, they are made here in Tx, and I just wanted a bbl made here since I live here. It shoots fantastic, even with factory Hornady 212 Precision Hunters. Not that it matters much, but the straightest most concentric barrel I have dialed in was the cheapest one, a Wilson Arms blank.

I like Bartlein but all of those should be fine. 2b contour fluted for a mtn rifle.
