Which 6mm?

For those using the 6mm GT, and a tikka, did you get your firing pin bushed and turned down?

Considering going to a GT with hornady making it a distribution wide cartridge.

I know the answer to this question is subjective, but to the guys that have shot both 6 CM and the GT a lot: Is recoil management noticeably better with the Gay Tiger? I’m leaning hard towards the GT primarily for this reason. I am not very recoil sensitive having shot a 280AI a lot, and 300 Wby less, but the more I shoot my 6.5 CM (which I love shooting) the more I want less and less recoil. Wondering if the 6CM won’t be enough reduction to meet my expectations, so maybe the GT is the better play? Thanks.

I got a 6 creed that's collecting dust because of my arcs, the gt really really has my attention lately as a little more speed and varget to push it. It's amazing the more you shoot an efficient 6mm you really have no desire to change

The dasher has me considering dumping the 223 and just shooting dasher all the time instead. I think it would be hard to argue a BR or arc for everything inside of 500.

I guess I never even considered the dasher, I love my arcs and will always have a couple but it would be nice to build a custom and it's alot easier to justify the 308 bolt face

Good to know. Thank you! And yeah, may sound picky, but a bit more fps and optimized for Varget is exactly why I’m leaning GT. Probably need to go that route.

Dasher is optimized for Varg. The 6gt with anything 108gr or heavier performs much better with H4350 burn rate powders. 8 gt barrels and counting, tried every 6mm bullet from 105-115gr.

Some guys are running dasher successfully with h4350. Making it more appealing than a straight BR, or BRA to me.

Goood options to have.

I have never had a gun that shot as well and as easy as alpha dasher chamber/brass/sac alpha dasher die.

I’m giving it a good go on a hunting gun, should have the barrel spun on and shooting by may.

6 creed is on the edge of barrel life being worth it/ pickiness to me.

The difference between a 6 creed and a dasher recoil wise is notable.

I will +1 for the dasher.

I ended up in it because I love a Howa mini, and I know a guy with a dasher reamer.

If either of those weren’t true I’d probably go GT before getting my hands on the mini dasher.

16” factory barrel, bedded action in stockys stock, Swfa 3x9. I’m probably on the left of bell curves in terms of shooting ability on this forum - and the gun shot .68 moa 5 shot group 2713fps avg with virgin seconds brass/seconds 108’s/32gr Varget mag length OAL (2.315” - arbitrary choice to fit in mag not designed for the dasher). Shots 30-35 or so down the tube.

The dasher cartridge is a joke. I think even I can be a shooter with it. One of the best hunting decisions I’ve made to build this gun. Now I just need to find places to rifle hunt. 90% of my kills are with a bow…

Dashers are fantastic if you reload. I'vs shot out a handful of GT barrels before switching to dasher, and the dasher seems to be lest finicky and better groups / SDs than a GT. But if you don't reload then GT is a much better choice. But if you've got a really short barrel and aren't competing with it, only hunting, then 6 creed is probably better.

I don’t have any experience with Dasher or GT, but I’m a little curious about the reports that Dashers can have feeding issues. That’s a no-go for me if true, even if it’s as simple as less reliable than GT.

There's some truth to dashers not feeding reliably out of AICS mags (cartridge is too short).

However, there are mag kits to add a block to an AICS to fix that issue. Or you can buy MDT dasher mags (that's what I did) and never have a feeding problem.

I will say this about Dasher:

Take what you read about the cartridge with a grain of salt. Most of the information comes from prior to there being factory brass, and dies.

And ALL of the information comes from bench rest crowd. Not a lot of hunters.

And the Internet filters for bad news.

When I controlled for all of that, I got a tiny gun shooting tiny groups with fast heavyish for caliber bullets.

6gt and 6 dasher, you're stuck wirh dbm aics or aw style mags, all 10-12rd capacity. There are zero 5 Rd mags. A creedmoor hawkins hunter mag with the arc/grendel kit installed is a possibility with 6 dasher.

I've heard of some guys running magpul aics pmags successful with the gt, and those could work for 5rds. Neither of these cases will feed bdl style off the feed lips of an action, and wyatts center feed box is designed to run short mags.

6X47 6XC or 6CM, will feed in damn near everything.

You have the Hawkins (they made a standard spacer kit) and AI/primal rights 5 round mag kit available for shorter dasher options.

So far, I have had zero issues with MDT and AI/primal rights kits.

For a tikka Waters makes a 6 round br/dasher mag.

I've shot a decent amount of Dasher, I'm on barrel #9 currently and #10 is waiting in the wings. Even did a light one to hunt with once.

If I was going to have one light gun to practice with that had to have decent barrel life too, the Dasher/BR/ARC cases have something to be said for them. In reality, I have multiple "practice" rifles, and think the 6 Creed makes more sense for my hunting rifle (especially to keep velocity up with shorter barrels). 6 PRC/SAUM/UM if you really want a hot rod, but even an 18" 6 Creed should hold 1800 fps with good bullets to around 800 yds in my atmosphere.

The Magpul AICS .308 mags work wonderfully with 6GT for me.

I'm also running 10rd Accuracy International mags which work perfectly and see no reason why the 5rd wouldn't work as well.

Waters Rifleman also makes a 6rd GT sized AICS mag

There are heaps of options for 5rd in AICS pattern at least.. About the only one that doesn't work with GT is the old style MDT mags. Apparently their new style does.
