Im in the process of building on a solus action. Ive currently got a 243 howa that this build was intended to replace. But now im thinking why not switch to a more modern cartridge. I want to stay with the 87-100gr bullets no real plans to shoot the 115’s. Have considered 6gt, xc, creed, SLR. What are yall running with this weight class bullet?

If your max bullet weight is 100gr the 243 Win works well. Not much benefit I know of to many of the more modern designs if you are limiting yourself to 100 grains. A couple are a bit faster, which if that is what you are after, it makes sense.

Have run 243 and 243AI. If not saving hides and using modern long range shooting techniques, an 87 vmax is pretty awesome. If looking to zero a scope and never move it, maximum danger space is the name of the game. 70 grain nosler ballistic tip are hell on yotes and shoot really flat at normal calling distances. If saving fur, I would steer you away from 6mm, but have had okay luck with 75 gr hp and 80 and 85 grain spire points. A 6 slr is a good modern case design without fireforming as is a 6 creed. I really like 40 degree shoulders though and often choose cartridges with that in mind.

I run a 243 because I have the brass and dies. My friend built a 6cm and he is shooting 87 v max pretty fast and accurately. If I reloaded and was starting from scratch I would highly consider the 6CM. If you need to walk into a store and buy ammo, the 243.

I was looking at hornadys website and if just wanting an absolute hammer. I’d do a 6mm creed and handload that new 80gr eld vt. Should be pretty dang hard on things out to 500 and flat!

Not on the list but I got a 6mm ARC a month ago and out of the box with a $150.00 3x9 was ringing a 8x8 steel at 300. Total rifle was 425.00 and I was shooting hornady black.

If you're a handloader and shooting small groups with ease is your goal, there's no better choice than a 6BR. 87 VLD Hunting bullet is so easy it's unreal. You won't get as flat a trajectory as a creed of course. But in a 20" barrel, 3000 fps with the 87s is easily achievable, and it's the easiest cartridge to load for on the planet.
