Actually I use a Eberlestock Nosegunner, haven't had any issue with retention so far, and carries pretty well with a thin handgun.

Mine goes in the right belt pouch of my pack. It came out briefly this weekend when I called a huge bear in with cow calls. Thankfully I didn’t have to use it. I knew I should have purchased a bear deterrent tag…….

Closest to my chest is the Kenai chest holster. Over that is SG bino harness, which I cinch up to keep the pistol freely accessible. Over that is my pack. Lot of straps but is super comfortable, the only thing i have to cognizant of is the chest strap from my pack and the retention cord for the binos.
