Bone stock Tikka superlite in 300wsm came in at 6lb 0.8oz.

Planning on a wildcat composites stock which should shave around 8oz.

Add Talley rings and Leupold vx3 4.5-14x40 (~16oz together).

So around 6lb 8oz empty - not bad.

I love my Abolt in 300wsm! A touch heavier than the light weight rifles but the balance is great, and my only semi regret is that I didn’t go with synthetic.

Put my .257wby fast twist on a diet! Swapping the DBM M5 for a Hawkins M5 Oberndorf, lightweight brake. Dropped the rail and rings for a set of Hawkins Lightweight, when and if I swap out the Razor AMG 6-24 I will save another 7 ounces and get down below 8.5lbs.

Have a bunch of parts at Alamo Precision right now for my light, 'around the world' build-- 338RUM, planning to run 236 Hammer Hunters for most game and then 282 Sledges for anything big/toothy

Borden Ti Timberline- 22oz
Proof Sendero 1-9.4, 24"- 48oz chambered
Manners EH4 (2 flush cups, 2 studs, 4 slot rail)- 30oz
March 3-24x42 FFP w/ Holland Level- 21.7oz
Murphy Ti Rail- 2.7oz
TPS Super-Low Rings- 3.4oz
TT Special Flat- 1.8oz
BDL bottom metal- 5.6oz
Ryan Pierce Ti 'Muscle Brake'- 3oz

8lbs 10.2oz

Been looking at ways to lighten my load. My current rifle is a rem 700 sendero in 300wm, weighing in at about 12lbs unloaded. Tossing around the idea of a new rifle, mainly only considering a tikka or savage in their respective lightweight models. But if there are other options under $1k I’m all ears.

My brother has a CA Mesa, never threw it on a scale but its not bad when paired with the right scope/ring combo. My CA Ridgeline (300 WSM) with DNZ rings, Vortex Razor HD LHT (19.1oz), HS Precision stock is 8.3lbs. If I had a lighter stock that 7.5lb range would be easy to get to. I think that's a pretty good weight for a magnum rifle.

Seekins Element 6.5 prc 21 inch barrel. Seekins low rings, brake, swfa 3x9 (wanted the reliability more than ultralight. 7lb even 5lb 5.5oz bare. I would consider for particular hunts putting and swfa or maven ultralight on it and getting to 6.5 all up.

Wow a 12-pound rifle in big mountain country seems way heavy in my humble opinion. Maybe I'm a weight weenie ... My old-school dead simple Rem700 comes in under 9 pounds with Leupold VX3 and ammo, as carried. That's a compromise between the joy to carry and the joy to shoot.

Just had my MPI microlight mountain compact fitted to my 6.5 Adirondack.
4.48lb with a Ti bolt handle
5.42lb with low talleys, swaro Z3 3-10x42 and a vortex level bubble.

Blank: 14.43oz
Hastings pad: 1.98oz
Swivel studs: 0.46oz
Total before work: 16.86oz

Stock with 14” of pull, sling swivels, Hastings microcell pad (the small one) bedded/painted all up was 19.01 oz all up. Came out heavier than expected because the blank needed a ton of work done as it was soft and had a ton of flex in the fore end and butt stock area. Carbon arrows were used to stiffen it up and make it suitable for use with a bipod.
According to my smith it was the most crude blank he had ever worked with.

5.19oz for a whole lot of money 😬

any weight savings with the pad? I didn't weigh my factory pad on my Kimber, but appears to be pretty light

Yikes. Thanks for sharing your experience. I think I'll look at Wildcat when I decide to replace my stock.

I can’t tell you the actual difference in weight of the pads themselves. But I at least expect it to be 2-3x the weigh. The Hastings microcell delaminated when it was fitted and had to be glued back together. All in all it turned out good but when I think about he cost I cringe a bit. A McMillan edge can be done to 20oz. I was told Stuart figured he could get a blank to 16oz. I fondled one a few weeks back and the thing was stiff as hell with the I beam he does.

Essentially they should finish out to be the same amount of weight in my eyes. Wildcat would probably be the cheapest route.

I don’t think the mold has been completed as the Smith is still working on it

If you want affordable lightweight and don't mind the plastic tikka is the way to go. However just for grins check out the remington model 7s. They can be pretty easily had in the 500 dollars and under range. My model 7 compact weighs around 5.5 pounds naked. The non compact can be had in short mag chamberings and over time they make terrific builders. Strap a stock to it now, a trigger later ect ect...
