Range finder binoculars, then when u sit on ur A$$ and glass you can "shoot " the laser and familiarize urself with the distance ur looking at ,you can entertain yourself while u wait for the elk like how far is that rock etc.
Also make a commitment to physical fitness, that doesn't cost anything except your motivation. Come to Colorado on vacation and go " dude ranching " look around, see what high altitude feels like ,how big it is ,etc ...

My local BP is an outpost so doesn’t have near the stuff bigger stores have. I go in on occasion (mostly taking my kid to see the fish), and honestly their selection is not grand. They do have a pair of NL pures and ELs which are undoubtedly nice but over the $1500 budget. But for the most part the majority of their stuff is low to mid tier…which makes it difficult to theoretically choose based solely on my local store and what I can put my hands on today.

Gun Bearer by Kifaru. Takes the weight of your rifle off of your shoulder and puts it onto your hips. Also frees up a had and is as quick to deploy as a shoulder sling. I also really like their bino harness.
