For the VA and Alabama woods I'll have my tikka t3x in 270 shooting 130 grain Barnes TTSX or my old Remington 700 in 7mm rem mag shooting 150 grain Barnes TTSX.

In PA it'll most likely be a 270 Winchester or a 340 Weatherby, in Maryland it will be my custom 45 raptor I had built this year.

I'll carry a bergara ridge in 6.5 creedmoor shooting eldx 143 grain factory loads.

A Stevens model 200 in 223 will get some time in the woods as well shooting ol trusty 55 grain soft points. I know its not a tikka or TMK but that rifle has killed more deer and pigs than most people can fathom over the past 16 years that I've owned it.

The kids will shoot a CVA Scout in 300 blackout shooting fusions suppressed so we can hear that "dropping a watermelon on concrete" sound when they thump them.

They will mix a AR pistol shooting 55 grain soft points suppressed into the mix somewhere I'm sure. We'll probably kill 6 or 8 again this year for ourselves and a few other families.

Tikka m595 in 243 here for Idaho mule deer hunts. I generally use core-lokts. It seems to be the right combo because the gun shoots extremely straight for me.

Opening weekend in a slug zone it will be my TC Omega and Ruger SRH .44. Kids will have their Knights opener. The rest of the time in the rifle zone will be my Tikka Wideland 30-06 in Rokstok and my son will have his Tikka 7-08.

I might have a new trainer go to rifle. Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian in .223 rem. I used my 75gr ELDM AR15 loads in it and had no pressure signs at 94 degrees and 80 degrees temps. 2.365" COAL 23.3gr TAC, As you all know be careful since TAC can get over pressured at higher temps. It's too hot in my AR15 @ 104 degrees but was fine in my Weatherby so far. Velocity was 2814 fps average with not great ES/SD, but just under moa so I'll play with the load for now. I'll modify the magbox and bolt stop since COAL is only 2.35X". But for now steel was easy out to 800 yards in 5 mph winds this weekend. 1724068575340.png

I mostly hunt large swaths of clear cut timber company land, so I hunt whitetails like mule deer with my 280 ai turret gun- glassing & spot + stalk.

I have a tikka action waiting to be barreled in 280ai. It’s a very interesting cartridge.

Man you fellas got me looking hard at those tikkas. Might have to add one to the arsenal. I'm trying a ruger american in 308 this year for PA. But in ohio I use my 45/70 or 450bm.

I love the Americans and own 4 including a 308. But I love my tikka 30-06 more. Soon to have a 243 as well. I have a ruger American ranch in 7.62x39 that my favorite tho. 9 out of 10 times that the one I grab. And now it’s suppressed.

I don’t have a “go to” rifle.

I have several in my safe that I rotate through.

But I guess if you forced me to only use one ever again it would be my plain old boat paddle stock Ruger M77 .270 win. It was my first rifle. Mowed a ton yards to pay for that thing.

I’m an older hunter and my eyes aren’t what they used to be.
I’d been hunting with my model 94, but I began having problems seeing the iron sights. I just can’t bring myself to put a scope on it so I needed a new woods gun.
I originally wanted a 7mm 08, but at the time ammo and components weren’t easily available for that caliber, so I went with 30 caliber, which I was loading a 30-06 for.
All I needed were some new dies.
I decided on a compact model because I wanted an agile handling rifle similar to my 94, and this Tikka is only an inch longer, and about half pound lighter.
And the action, soooooo smooth.
There is another picture in post #18.
I shoot 150 grain Nosler AB which is ten grains light than the 160 grain hornady’s I was shooting with my model 94.
Point of this whole long winded post…..
Get the Tikka!
