What's your favorite freeze dried food?

MH all the way. Pasta Primivera is a solid pick. Apple crisp for dessert. I always save my lasagna for the last day cause no matter how hard I try I can't get all the cheese of my spork.

Mountain House had a booth at the Harrisburg Sport show with samples. 1 was turkey tetrazzini and it was great. I ordered a few packs for this fall. Best MH that I ever tried.

The last issue of Backpacker magazine gave the Grizzly Ridge Cream chicken and rice a great review. They list the calories at 750 cal per serving which would be great for those hard days afield. Now if i could only find some to try.

I really dig the low-sodium M.H. Chicken and White Bean Chili...it's one of my new favorites. I have been experimenting more and more with Backpackers pantry, most of them I have tried I liked. They also have some interesting menu options..

Mountain House is my go to. My favorites are Chicken A'la King, Turkey Tetrazzini, and Beef Stroganoff. I like the MH noodle based dishes over the rice. I just picked up a half dozen different flavors of Backpackers Pantry and Natural High late last season just to try something new. I only tried one or two and honestly can't even remember what I tried now. I typically just stick with MH because I have a few different flavors I like, they're lighter weight than the other two, and they cost less.

Has anyone tried any freeze dry breakfasts that are any good? MH's eggs suck.

MH's eggs suck.

Ain't that the truth. I'm not a breakfast person but it's pretty necessary in sheep country. I take oatmeal(which I don't like either) and take a couple packs and mix it with coffee.. Tastes like azz but gets the job done;)

MH for me, I love the stuff. Stroke-en-off is best, followed by the Chili Mac. Lasagna is also great, except I can never get my spoon clean of it. Lasagna is best for the last meal of the trip......

Last year I started taking granola cereal and powdered milk. I was really scared of the powdered milk thing but it is great. I tried a few different brands from Walmart til I found the one I liked.
Granola cereal (Costco) and milk has much higher calories than oatmeal so your not hungry an hour later.

The MH granola and blueberry is pretty good for breakfast. I eat it cold like cereal. Nice not to have to clean out oatmeal from my cup. I usually compliment the granola with Carnation's instant breakfast for added calories.

The MH eggs suck....fully agree. So do the chicken and rice. No taste! I like Chili-mac the best. I find the trick with freeze dried is not being able to see what it looks like when you eat it!

Becca started doign that for us in 2012. Best backcountry breakfast!! Way better than oatmeal! I call it "glorious cereal"! Had a bunch last week on our 5 day winter camping trip. Oh so nice!

Actually her post is what made me try it and it is so good I keep some in the pantry for a normal breakfast. I also tried it warm on those real cold mornings and it is much better than expected. (Warm milk sounds worst than powdered milk).

I just packed some for everyday next week on a 7 day trip!!

I am ashamed to admit that I actually look forward to MH. I like the stroganoff, but I carry an individual serving packet of philly cream cheese, which I mix in just before eating. I also carry ground chiles and granulated garlic. Chili Mac is good, and the chicken breast with mashed potatoes is good too. For those I mix in some garlic and chile, and break up the chicken breasts with my fingers. Then I add WAAAAY too much water and have a potato chicken soup.
