agreed, got winded at 1/4 mile once.Where I hunt in Colorado, it’s open high country, and I typically set up on the nearest ridge to where I watched the bucks bed down that morning. Because of that, I’m usually looking at shots in the 400+ yard range. There are times I can get closer, but if I move in and then sit for 4–6 hours waiting for them to come out, I have to be far enough away that I won’t get winded if the wind changes throughout the day.
I’ve been burned by bucks at 330 yards and at 400 yards when the wind shifts and blows in their direction.
I voted 100-200. I thought through the mountain bucks I’ve killed the last decade, while there has been some necessity for longer range shooting, most of the bigger ones were killed between 60 yards and 150 yards.
