Where I hunt in Colorado, it’s open high country, and I typically set up on the nearest ridge to where I watched the bucks bed down that morning. Because of that, I’m usually looking at shots in the 400+ yard range. There are times I can get closer, but if I move in and then sit for 4–6 hours waiting for them to come out, I have to be far enough away that I won’t get winded if the wind changes throughout the day.

I’ve been burned by bucks at 330 yards and at 400 yards when the wind shifts and blows in their direction.

agreed, got winded at 1/4 mile once.

Had one at 32 yards, one at 450. From hunts I've been on, you're either sub 250 or well past 400. All depends on the terrain.

Most of mine are in the 300-400 yard range. That is mainly due to the open country we hunt mule deer in. My last one was just under 500 yards. My son's last one was 460 yards. My closest, outside of archery kills, was 175 yards. Anything under 400 is a slam dunk if you practice correctly so I rarely feel the need to get closer. I haven't missed one inside of 400 since I was a kid 35 years ago.
