What’s the most valuable thing you’ve lost?

I dropped a pair of ELs crawling through scrub oak, it was so thick I was able to retrace my path a long ways and eventually found those olive drab binos that blended in. They now have a wrap of orange electrical tape.

I left a sig rangefinder on the ground in the grasslands that I found a couple weeks later and it still worked.

Couple close calls there.

I got home from a hunting trip, and we had all of our clothes in contractor bags. Jackets, pants, boots. Everything for me and my two boys. I mixed the bags up with the garbage and threw them in the dumpster. I finally realized it a few days later. That had to be $1k. Not exactly lost but incredibly stupid.

Most expensive thing I actually lost was a St Croix spinning setup. I had two rods and just forgot it on the bank.

I left my first pair of $500 binos (very expensive for me at the time) at the archery range. Went back 30 min later, they were gone and nobody had turned them in. I think that’s the only thing I’ve lost in 23 years of hunting.

I’ve lost a really good Sig rangefinder. It wasn’t being made anymore and the new ones don’t seem to work as well.

My balls when I got married. I know where they are though and see them every day. In a jar on the shelf. I even get to borrow them once in a while, to go hunting/fishing....

Had to get airlifted off the mountain once after I got a bit too adventurous and got myself cliffed out. Whole pack full of gear and my rifle are as far as I'm aware still sitting on that ledge.

I lost a SportDog shock collar remote in the commotion when my dog bit into a porcupine. I have also lost a bunch of knives, a rangefinder, and I have a terrible habit if leaving those little tripod stools behind on accident.

I have lost a few knives and few pairs of Maui Jim's but I have also found complete fly rod set ups, range finders, releases, ammo, ect....I like to think in the grand scheme of things I am even steven..lol

I would be crushed if I lost my Maui Jim's.... lol

My dad lost his .22 revolver when I was 11 or 12 antelope hunting. My uncle, who we were hunting with, sold it to him and my dad bought a holster that was too big for it. He had it on his hip as we were off on a jaunt looking for speed goats. At some point it slid out of his holster, maybe white crossing a creek. We went back and looked and couldn't find it. So if you're antelope hunting a ranch between Martinsdale and Whte Sulpher on the north side of the road, keep your eyes open for a pistol that's been sitting there a few decades. I was there when I was 11 the year before I could hunt and then 12 the year I could hunt. We started drawing the other side of the highway for a year and then Livingston area after that so we've never been back hunting that place since, not that I could even find it anymore. I've been through there many times once I moved to Bozeman and couldn't tell you where to even turn in.

just lost my leatherman skeletool cx last weekend that I've carried daily for 5 or 6 years. got a wind knot while trout fishing and I cut that chunk of line out and stuck it in my pocket. must've worked out and gotten snagged on something and took the leatherman with it because they both disappeared. retraced my steps but the weeds were thick and waist high - no luck.

Lost my bow release on some public land last year. I always keep a spare in my bino harness, so it didn’t ruin my hunt….ended up going back the next day and retraced my steps but couldn’t find it. To this day I still don’t know how I ended up losing it.

I use to wonder how people lost/misplaced things while hunting. That was until one year I lost my trailer ramps (didn't get them pinned in correctly while in the dark) and a couple months later lost my atlas bipod (came off my rifle while hiking). Between the two it would cost 8-900 dollars to replace. Replaced the bipod, but haven't yet with the ramps.

I had an awesome Buck vantage that is on a hillside in the Sawtooths because as I was cutting up some summer sausage for my wife and I this six point we had glassed up from the bottom ripped a bugle and I neglected to retain it.

My Dad and his duck hunting buddy went to put their canoe in at a put in spot and they looked down and there was a dry bag and gun case with a Ruger red label in it. They happen to find a business card in it and called him and he was ecstatic. He owned the company that made the dry bags and hooked them up with a couple.

Lost my Rolex watch and it cost $2500. I kept it in my bag before traveling for a friend's wedding, and after I got to my destination and was getting ready for the wedding, I searched my bag but couldn't find it. It was really painful. This happened in 2022.
