My 9 year old shot his first fox squirrel today, it was a great shot, probably 60 feet up a tree, it did the death grip for a moment then began to fall, until it hung up on a limb at 40 feet. I spent the next 45 minutes trying to knock it out of the tree and even resorted to attempting to shoot the limb down. No branches low on the tree that would be safe to climb. So experienced squirrel guys, what do you do when this happens? Chalk it up to hawk food? Do you have a special trick to retrieving them when they hang up? I’ve shot a few(a dozen or so) myself but every one has fallen to the ground.
