For the “range”, I would think anything would work. The tripod steadiness itself would be more of a factor than the head, as you won’t be panning and tilting while trying to see holes in paper. for years I had a cheap spotter, on windy days I would take the spotter off the tripod and wedge between sandbags to keep it on target. i dont know about the rrs ones but the arca plates i ordered off amazon slide in tight to it but the clamp wont quite reach to lock it down, but that might be just cause they are cheap i dont know.
