Tried out my DIY Sit-Drag saddle for the first time Christmas EVE and I am DONE with tree stands.

The whole setup fit in my Kifaru Antero day pack, I strapped my climbing sticks to the back with a Sherman pouch, hiked in a little over a mile into some national forest land then proceeded to blow a chance at a really nice buck through no fault of the hardware.

I need to do a few tweaks to the setup but this thing blows any stand out of the water. Wow!

Let these fellers poke fun at saddle hunting all they want. Get a Tethrd saddle with the recliner and you’ll be more comfortable, lighter, quieter, and far more mobile. I got the the stacker outdoors sticks, which are nice, but I’m planning to upgrade to the Wild Edge steps.

Saddle all the way. More comfortable, get in any tree based on winds, lighter, shoot any direction, safer, I could keep going but I think that’s enough.

G2 Outdoors - he's a co-founder of tethrd. great stuff on his channel
DIY Sportsman - he uses more custom or diy options, but great introduction to the saddle

Start with those two and I think you'll have a great idea of what you're getting into. I've watched tons of videos and read alot on saddlehunter.com - great community and knowledge guys.

I second all this information. I also recommend watching/listening to THP (The Hunting Public). I apologize if this has been mentioned already.
I am relatively new to deer hunting so my journey started with saplings slapping my Summit and I knew their had to be a better way. I hunted from a saddle this year and have really enjoyed it.
I am currently modifying sticks, using tree steps, ring of steps, and about to order some bolts. I think each stand and setup has its place. I recommend you trying as much as you can and find what makes you comfortable. Good luck!

I did the saddle hunting this year and to be honest I liked it for most of the benefits people talk about but I can’t agree that it is more comfortable than a regular tree stand. I agree it’s safer and lighter. But I hunt public land where I can’t do presets that damage tree. I was using both the wild edge steps and xop sticks with the ridge runner platform. My biggest issue was having to stare at the tree in front of me for hours on end. Idk giving it one more season before I make my decision. My old go to was the lone wolf hand climber thing is amazing as long as you are hunting good sets of hardwoods

I used 3 different saddles over a 2 year period. Never again. Uncomfortable and requires excessive movement to shoot to the weak side.

Lone wolf stand and sticks for me.

You will be hardpressd to find a more functional stand then a chippaewa wedgelok, inwould take it over a lone wolf or anything else out there at this point, I also have an XOP, muddy and millennium
I had a Chippewa Wedgelok and loved it, but it was made like a tank and weighed just about as much too! Not good for a run and gun type of stand.

If I hunted in Georgia I'd use a summit climber too. There's a lot of straight tall pines down there. lol
I Live In North Georgia. Right at Tail End Of the Smoke Mountains. Few Pines But their So Big You Cant Get Climer Around Them..We Have Lot White 'And Red Oaks Up This Way .With Good Mix Of Poplar , Locus, And Sourwood.. Takes Bit to Find a Good One. But When You Do Ypu Can Set All Day. In Comfort.. Tried The Long Woif. Hated It And Gave It Away. Summit Weighs 22lb And I Can Set Daylight till Dark.

They have models that come in under 12 pounds. The quest is 10.5 pounds. The ghost is 8.5 pounds.
I have every stand they make, The ghost a great run and gun stand for short sits. The quest is big enough you can sit all day.
Even the regular wedge lok is less then 15 pounds.
They all hang better then my lone wolf stand thats for sure

I went the saddle hunting route and I don't think I'll ever go back. Once getting comfortable in the Tethrd system I tried to go back to my lone wolf assault II hang on for a hunt and immediately knew I was a saddle guy.

I've not tried a saddle or the latest and greatest offerings on climbers, but I can't imagine any that are safer or more comfortable than a Tree Lounge climber with a bow attachment. My 2 are 15+ years old and still going strong. They are a little heavy but that has almost no impact the way I use them. I can literally sleep in them if I want. I use a Summit Seat-of-Pants harness with them. Looks like they've reopened the company but I have not tried their new stuff.
