I’m getting ready to do my first bedding job on a Howa Mini in a Stockys.

I’ve watched videos and have a decent basic idea of what to do but have a couple questions.

My biggest question is around the recoil lug and what should be relieved.

Should I open up the lug area some for the bedding compound to have space to go? What about the V block leave it as is or sand it down? With the action screw going into the recoil lug should I remove some in the bottom of the lug area to have a uniform bedding under the lug?

I’m planning to do the recoil lug area and the rear tang. Any reason to do the sides of the action?

I’m going to leave a little of the rear tang to set the original inlet height, should I leave a little in the front (bottom of recoil lug?) as well?

Thanks for the advice

Since this is your first one, the easy way to do it is to tape the barrel at the front of the stock so it sits just slightly higher than it does with the factory bedding.
Then put two layers of tape on the bottom of the lug and one on the front and trim with a razor blade.
Rough up the bedding area, apply release compound to everything you don’t want stuck, mix epoxy carefully by weight using your scales and put a bit in the lug recess and under the front of the action.
Pull down lightly with both screws and let it set for 24 hrs
Don’t worry about the backend.

@Bratch I do not tape the recoil lug at all or relive the V area front and back on the Vanguard/Howa. I do relieve the side of the V are with a channel for epoxy to flow up and out of. I tape the underside flat that is just behind the recoil lig and underneath/parallel to the bolt head. I also relieve the stock where that are touches.
