I had a weatherby 270 with a beautiful wood stock that kicked more than it should have. I put a game scout on it and the thing was downright comfy. I later put that same stock on a 300wm vanguard I got for $250 and it didn’t feel that much worse than the 270 did with that same stock. I say cut the 300 down to 20” and thread it for suppressed hunting. Then get a quality gamescout stock with a better pad. You’ll be a much happier person. You might be surprised how a stock can improve felt recoil when it is shaped and fitted appropriately.

Im not seeing the benefit in rebarreling like others have said. They’re all going to feel roughly the same as far as recoil is concerned.

Another option, one you already don't care for, is to increase the weight of the rifle. Not a real popular option on this site, but one that is effective nonetheless. I chose to caliber down. I’m sticking with my 270. I did just buy a Savage LRH with a brake I can twist to the open or closed position. I went this route so I could tell if the added weight takes care of the heavy recoil. The rifle with scope is 9.5#.

Out in the field, you won't even really notice the recoil soo much even if like the scope whacks you on the eyebrow from being up on it too close. The adrenalin and everything, and your focus being out there on that animal makes you not even notice all that.

But yeah, at the range? Go ahead and maybe bring something to drape on your shoulder or something.
