Kinda depends on whether handloading is an option, but with the .540 bolt face...

If handloading's not an option, then maybe a .264 win mag, or 7PRC.

If handloading is an option, there are some hotrod 6mms that could be pretty cool. 6 PRC could be a good one.

A 27 Nosler throated long for the 170 Elite Hunter would be an absolute rocket (3,250+ fps) that turns elk organs into mush and mist. You could probably get 3,500 or more fps out of a Hammer HBC with a BC of .580.

26 and 28 Nosler would be the same idea.

Yes belted cases can be a PITA and it is overbore, but there is something magical about that cartridge when you find "that" load for it.

I’m a fan of the 7 PRC. Seekins Havok Element and hand loaded 175g Bergers with H1000 and it’s a dream to shoot long range. Hornady Precision Hunter isn’t too bad as well if you’re not into hand loading.

Curious if the 7PRC is LA and the 6.5 PRC is SA. Could you size up the6.5 PRC to a 7mm in a SA and load long. Would this be considered an improved 7saum? Just an idea. Would be a laser and not suffer over bore like the 7PRC.
