I’ve done the math a couple times but wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience… On an Ace #3 chopped to 18in, given the .012 taper per inch, it doesn’t seem that it will be under .75 at the muzzle. Unless it isn’t a straight/linear taper. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

Unless the chart im looking at is wrong, the #3 contour is .700 at the muzzle to start with at 26". That means youre going to be well under the OTB portion of that suppressor.

0.012” taper x 8” = 0.096”. 0.70” + 0.096” =0.796”. Maybe if a smith takes 2+” off the shank it could work?

John, I have an ace number three at 18 inches also not sure if it’s .750 but my gunsmith threaded at 5/8 x 24 and he’s very particular and wouldn’t do it. If there wasn’t enough meat left there. I’m unable to measure it right now but maybe tomorrow the next day I’ll be able to put a caliper on it. I also had a 21 inch bartlien number three that is also 5/8 and I’m sure it’s not as thick at the end being in 21 inches the tapers are very similar and Alex Wheeler was a gunsmith on that and he had no problem putting a 5/8 x 24 on it also.

Assuming you’re looking for diameter specifically for a reflex suppressor?
Thats right. Trying to find where it balances enough shoulder for 5/8x24 but not too much for a .75 max diameter reflex. I’m going to reach out to UM today but was just hoping to see if it’s even a possibility to do this and stay under 20.

I guess the other variable to consider is that I'm chambering it in a smaller cartridge. So more could come off the shank than say ... a 300 norma mag.

I mis spoke, the blank i have at home is a Krieger #5, which from a few dimensions I compared is the exact same as an ace 3 and a bartlein 3B.

Keep in mind your shoulder is going to be.6” short of your desired length, so factor that in.

Shanks appear to be the same length as well. So you can likely get close.

The mark is .750, for reference my 21” ace is .748 at the thread shoulder.

If you want to go shorter I would honestly try to track down a bartlein 3, Krieger 4 or ace 2. We really should approach UM and see if they will come out with an OG contour for us, essentially a 730-750 taperless. Skinny shank would be an even better sell too.

Thank you! Thank you!

I agree about the “OG Contour.” I’d buy at least two in short order.
