Kinda depends on whether handloading is an option, but with the .540 bolt face...

If handloading's not an option, then maybe a .264 win mag, or 7PRC.

If handloading is an option, there are some hotrod 6mms that could be pretty cool. 6 PRC could be a good one.

25/6.5prc or just 6.5prc if you want a 264 would be my vote.

A 27 Nosler throated long for the 170 Elite Hunter would be an absolute rocket (3,250+ fps) that turns elk organs into mush and mist. You could probably get 3,500 or more fps out of a Hammer HBC with a BC of .580.

26 and 28 Nosler would be the same idea.

Yes belted cases can be a PITA and it is overbore, but there is something magical about that cartridge when you find "that" load for it.

I’ve had the same action for 10 years sitting in my gun safe because I couldn’t decide what to do with it. I’m currently gathering stuff for 7/300 prc. I’ve wanted another 338 edge but decided to go with something different
