What would have happened if I would have shot this round?

I bought a bag of 100 new Remington .221 Fireball cases about 20 years ago and about 1/3rd of the brass in the bag had split necks exactly like shown in the OP's original picture. The rest had terrible neck thickness variation (.006" on one side and could almost see through the other) and were basically unusable. Went 'round and 'round with Remington CS and never did get replacement brass.

I contacted them and got offered "swag" for it. Not really too interested in swag. I would much rather have the problem replaced with a proper solution not "swag"

There's a part of me that felt a little insulted in that is what he assumed I would find attractive. Like I'm not a teenager looking for swag to wear. Especially considering I don't have any pride in their company. I bought their product because it was my only option. I ended up telling him I don't want it and if they are going to offer me anything for compensation I would prefer something that is more related to what I called in for. Again, really good, or even just good customer service covers a lot of mistakes and flaws. Bad customer service loses business. Heck look at vortex, not the best scopes, pretty subpar. But gosh dang people buy then because then they fail, and boy will they, just send it in for new one and you're done. Good customer service covers underperforming products

To the original question, if it chambered I doubt anything significant would have happened. If it’s a fold in the brass I doubt your bolt would have locked.

Yeah the bolt closes on it like usual. No unusual tightness or restrictions. Definitely fireable

Correct. This was new empty brass and they weren't fit to load.

I’m sure it would fire just fine. My wife inherited an old 280 Remington from her grandpa with a bunch of hand loads. She killed a buck with it and shot a bit sighting it in and getting use to it. I noticed that some of the spent brass had cracked necks and after a closer look a lot of the reloads were cracked.
We probably shot about a dozen of them with zero issues but I tossed the ammo after finding all the cracked necks. I think way more people shoot cracked ammo than realize.

Juat my guess and others will have more knowledge than myself. If neck diamter is normal it would have went bang and you may or may not notice.

This ...now that you've confirmed it chambers normally. Happens with my 223 occasionally. Gasses might not be good for the chamber, but nothing catastrophic occurs.
