What shotgun are you all using for Turkeys

I bought a pawn shop beater single 12 for my turkey gun. Half a roll of camo duct tape and it’s ready to roll.

Is that a New England Pardner?

I have a Rem 870 12 gauge now.
It shoots great but looking to get a little nicer gun that is Semi Auto.
What are you all using.
Been looking at some but reviews on about anything is all over the place.
Looking for something in the $800-$1000 range that is optic ready to run a red dot also.
I’m still using my old sloppy benelli nova 12ga but am going to get a mossberg sa-20 turkey… not fancy but I don’t get to chase turkey much (the 5 day trip I’m on now is generally my only turkey hunting because it’s a 7.5hr drive to get here) and it would be perfect for what I do, and a big upgrade from my current setup

Put a red dot on it and I will probably do 2 trips, my solo blue mountain hunt and another southern Oregon hunt and take my wife, and daughter if she wants to go, they would both dig turkey hunting, but they wouldn’t like it here, way too much walking and cold nights in a tent

But I will likely be over 20 miles walked today when I get back to camp, so a 5.5# 20 gauge sounds nice

I do get a kick out of killing turkey with my hoopty gun, and it certainly works, especially with the right choke and TSS, but I’m ready for an upgrade, turkey hunting is something I enjoy a bunch

Have a 20 ga Rem 870 Express Magnum youth model that stacks them good with Win 5 shot Turkey loads and a single shot Revelation, iirc, 410 that works well with 9 shot tungsten loads.

Personally, I’d rather gut an elk than clean one of those stinky feather ridden Dino birds. But I do like bbq wild Turkey breast. So both of my Turkey guns are loaners…

You didn’t tell of anything “greener” in either of your posts.
I should see if he wants to buy my nova, it has a fiber optic bead, has never been cleaned, and has never missed a beat, I think the sloppy tolerances everywhere make it unbreakable, and can’t get too dirty to jam (think self cleaning) and I made a great mod last year… a limbsaver pad

No low balls, I know what I got

Very true. I sighted in using lead on my 410 and at 25 yards the pattern was not tight enough to be useful. The tss pattern at that distance was about 7”. It’s amazing stuff.

I was able to get a decent pattern with Winchester double x 7.5’s, copper plated lead. Local shop has it for $12.99 a box and browning .410 tss #9 for 32.99.

Here was the double x target I think 88-90 hits in a 10” circle at 25 yards.

Turkey hunting again for the first time in over 20 years! Taking my oldest daughter and mother out last week of April into first couple days of May(WI 3rd period). I used to use a 12ga 870 but that’s gone now and all I use for everything is in 20 and a 16 gauge. I’ll be taking my Benelli Montifeltro 20 and shooting standard copper plated #5s. Within 30 yards should be fine after patterning. The closer, the more fun! Looking forward to it! Nothing like the spring woods coming back to life after a long winter!
