What Scope Rings are you all using

Seekins and no lapping.

The Vortex precision match rings are just a branded version of the Seekins. Buy whichever is on sale.

Last couple rings I bought were Vortex Pro rings, which I like quite a bit. I traded for some Vortex/Seekings Matched rings and they are big and bulky, but quality. For mid-tier rings the Vortex Pro seem well built with #8 ring screws and not overly large. I also like the Warne Mountain Tech aluminum rings, though I don't own any. These would be in my top 3 when shopping for new rings.

Talley steel bases and rings almost exclusively except for a few sets of custom built

I use the talley in burnt bronze on my x bolt hells canyon, rifle is cerakote in burnt bronze so makes a nice combo and love the construction.

I always wonder what, if anything, that cerakote does to the tolerances.
Cerakote will absolutely change tolerances. They sell all sorts of silicon plugs to keep overspray out of areas that cannot tolerate a change. I was messing around with it a while back and coated a 10/22 receiver without plugging the pin holes. I had to gently ream them out to get the pins to go through them again.

A note on the Vortex Pro’s.

Tried to bring a set to spec torque this week and had some issues.
I noticed some discoloration on the bases.
I was also able to feel a “high” spot where the discoloration was on the ring base.
I quit trying to tighten them before they (I would assume as such) broke.

This is using a Wheelers Fat Wrench set to 30 in/lbs.

On the positive side, I had a new set from Vortex 4 days later.

This is one set out of probably 6 that I’ve had issues with. And I play musical scopes quite a bit.

Has anyone used Ring True tape in rings to prevent slippage? I hadn’t heard about the product until today, but the manufacturers description sounds plausible. (I sound like a bot describing it like this lol)

Nightforce on a couple and Talley on a couple lighter rifles. Ive read of Talleys cracking although mine haven't.

Interesting. I ordered some Vortex Pro's a couple weeks ago and noticed the same thing with the discoloration line, almost looked like two different metals flowed together. I was gonna use them anyway except I ran across a seriously good deal on Leupold Backcountry rings and they had a $20 rebate on top, so got them for like $15. Returned the Vortex because of that, maybe dodged a bullet.

All of my hunting rifles typically get a VX-5 or VX-6 and Warne MountainTech base and rings.

My AR's typically get Badger Ordnance or American Defense.

I moved from Talley Lightweights to NF Lightweights. My scope was moving in the Talley's at spec torque and anchored in the NF. I use the six screw and they added only a couple of ounces relative to the Talley LWs.

Warne Mountain Tech for hunting rifles. Lightweight and nothing to lap really.
