What scope am I looking for? Light weight, the right style of turret.

I'm looking for a scope for my lightish allround hunting rifle. I hunt in lowlands with a mix of forest and field, so some shots are close, some are far.

- Very good optics quality
- At least 10x maximum magnification
- At least 40 mm objective size, for hunting in dawn and dusk
- 22 oz max weight
- mil elevation turret, that turns counter clockwise for "up".

My frontrunner so far is the Swarovski Z6i BT 1.7-10x. It weighs less than 18 ounces, and you can replace the obnoxious turret rings with an aftermarket ring with mrad markings. It has the CCW turret. It has amazing glass clarity.

I have a feeling that there is a light weight 3-10x scope out there with good glass quality and the right style of turret. For the close up shots, I could mount a small red dot. Leupold has a bunch of options, but most of the lighter weight options have MOA adjustments. The reason why I want a turret with mil adjustments and CCW for up, is that I have that configuration on my dedicated target/long range scopes.

That's a good suggestion. It has a smaller FoV than the Swarovski, but I'm sure it's more rugged. Kind of annoyed by the complexity of the reticle for an SFP scope in this application, but it could still be a winner overall.

The Maven RS1.2 looks great, but it's 4 oz heavier than my arbitrary limit, and half a pound heavier than the Swarovski.

Trijicon Credo 2-10x36. Not my favorite reticle, but pretty solid all around, and FFP.

Are you planning on dialing? Swaro scopes are not know for reliable/repeatable dialing.

S&B klassik 3-12x42 checks every box with the exception of the elevation direction.
Advantage over the Swarovski is the S&Bwill stay zeroed. Has a functional reticle for wind holds or holdovers if so inclined.

Every optic is a trade off. The RS1.2 checks every box on his list except the weight. Just like you recommending the S&B, which checks every box except the elevation direction. An optic doesn’t exist that checks every single item on the list currently, everything available is an “almost.”

I guess it technically does check all the items currently on your list, since reliability and durability aren’t on your list. But if you take those items into account, it DEFINITELY doesn’t check the boxes.

Hey the Leupold Mk4hd 2.5-10x weighs 21 oz and it comes in mil adjustments. It also has a very clean reticle.

Is the reticle workable at 2.5x in the ffp version?

Your first choice of the Swarovski Z6 1.7-10 is a good one. I have and use 2 on heavy recoiling rifles. I own and use other Z6's with BT's and they have all been reliable. I was told by a Swarovski employee ( who I know and will remain un named) to stick with all their models of Z6 or better, Z3 and Z5 can have issues.

The z3 and z5 aren't made in Austria, but in some shining city upon a hill. The z3 and z5 lines are kind of low cost alternatives to the z6 and z8.
