Anyone have a solid 4runner setup for extended camping and hunting trips? I have a 2020 trd pro and am debating between selling it and getting a full size truck or building it out to make it more comfy for extended camping and hunting trips. Right now for elk hunting, I will sleep in a tent and use a hitch rack to carry my biggest cooler that's roughly 150qt. My other two coolers and gear go inside. If I keep it, I would add a battery system with a fridge, a rear drawer system, including a kitchen drawer, and then either a sleeping platform inside or a rooftop tent. Would love to see photos of other 4runner hunting rigs

I don’t have a 4runner but I do have a GX470 that I camp with.

Mine has a set of Dobson drawers and I can sleep inside if I choose to. Normally I carry a cooler, Chuckbox and a table in the back. On the roof rack is my recovery gear and a Thule bag with soft goods.

The shelf on top of the drawers usually gets taken out for longer adventures.

Both our son and I have GX460’s with gofast SuperLite rooftop tents. For 1 hunter and their gear( or husband/wife) it’s a slick setup.
I also have a 2001 Land Cruiser the tent would work well with.

I saw a guy on YouTube remove his passenger front seat to make a bed platform. I may try this in my grand Cherokee, I like staying mobile and rarely use my tent, it should make it easier as I can keep a few more things inside at night.

I have a stowaway hitch box, it’s great but pricey, but lucky and found one on Craig’s list. It swings open for accessing tail gate, I did drill new holes in the base so it does open with the box closed.

I have a small INNO roof box as well, it’s easy to remove when not in use.

I installed this cargo tray which keeps all of my gear stored tight and out of the way. Not pictured, but I have an inflatable mattress designed for this particular model and fills out the gaps between the folded rear seats and the front seats. It has 2 independent air chambers so I can just inflate 1 side or both. Everything is a compromise, but I like this system. My 4Runner has the 3rd row seating, which you probably don’t want. I’ve never once even raised those seats. Contemplated removing them for more storage space.

4runner is the perfect solo hunting rig when built out properly. My dad works with wood and was an easy project to make the sleeping platform/drawer. Definitely worth taking out the rear seat bottoms
