What rifle for my daughter

Daughter will be old enough to hunt next year so I am trying to find her a rifle that will fit her well. Looking at 6.5 creedmore. But not sure what rifle. What are your daughters running. Considering a weatherby Camilla vanguard. Thanks

Mine is still on her Savage 22 but will be getting a 243 vanguard for Christmas. It was a Walmart closeout, took the 1” pad off and put a .4”Pachmayer pad on which shortened the LOP to 13”. Also had it pad teal with black spider web and had the barrel cut from 24 to 21.5”. All together was $350.

If I didn’t go this route, it would be a Tikka compact in 6.5 CM or 7-08.

How old/big is your daughter? My daughter is 9 and fairly tall for her age. The 12.5” length of pull on the T3X Lite Compact is still a little long for her. I think there is a good chance she will wind up with one anyway.

I started my GS at 9 with a Kimber HUNTER in CM - lopped the barrel at 20", cut stock to fit (cut off piece is on a shelf by the loading bench to replace when needed - Fit him to a "TEE", he's killed 2 cows so far but I think it may be time to replace the stock, at 11 1/2 he's starting to look like his Dad (7 years in NFL)
I was started out on a cut down cobbled .303 enfield which imprinted into me that: "if you are earnest about them becoming a good shot & good hunter put in his or her hands a PERSONALIZED gun that they feel fits THEM" not some unused 30/30 leaning in the corner or a cast off relic - sometime later on HE will want, and get to choose what HE wants but for now he thinks it's pretty cool

I went with a stainless T3 Lite in 7-08 for my son when he was 12 and have been happy with the decision. That said, I just picked up a Fieldcraft in 6.5CM with the plans of probably putting a brake on it for my “little” 11 year old daughter.

My daughter is 11 but she is already 5'7" I had forgotten about the Tikka t3 compact. I will check them out

I think you're on the right track with the Camilla in 6.5 CM. Just use a scope with plenty of eye relief and stick with light loads to start.

Have you got her out to hold or shoot any rifles? So many variables I'd get her somewhere she can handle some and see what she likes, shooting various calibers even better. Kids can vary quite a bit on what they like and recoil tolerances. At 5'7" many adult sized rifles might be fine. I think stock fit and rifle weight are important but there are some that can just shoot about anything well. I have a few youth stocks for my various rifles I put on and have let my daughters and friends use to see if they like shooting or hunting. But if your spending money you might as well get them something they like.

My oldest is 14 she is about 5' 2" and still shoots a youth sized rifle in 243 with reduced recoil loads, she doesn't want to shoot anything bigger yet. My other daughter at 12 will shoot just about anything and don't think she's even 5' or over 75lbs yet recoil up to 6.5 creedmoor doesn't seem to bother her like her older sister. 12 year old shoots a Howa mini youth in 6.5 Grendel and looking at getting her a 6.5 creedmoor or 7mm-08. She likes the feel of the Camilla as does my wife so that is in consideration.

Scope wise both my daughters use a fixed 6x.

I originally got a Ruger Hawkeye FTW rifle in 6.5 CM, topped with a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50. My daughter shot her first deer with it from 375 yards, a small WT doe.......center-punched behind the shoulder. But we moved away from the 6.5 and now have a Ruger American .270 topped with the same scope. We love it. I have loads for it from 85gr up to 130's that shoot great. With the 85's it barely kicks and you can stay on target. I love shooting that thing.

I haven't shot a 6.5 yet was the recoil acceptable for your daughter

The FTW has a brake on it, but I couldn't really feel much difference between it and an '06. I was pretty surprised that it had as much recoil as it had. In contrast, I was also quite surprised at how little the .270 has with lighter bullets, even without a brake. My daughter shot it fine but she was 15 at the time. She was also 5'7" at the time. She's 5'9" now at 18. My 12 year old hasn't shown much interest in shooting........yet.

I just bought my daughter a model 7 cdl in 243. She only wants to hunt whitetail and pronghorn for now so 243 is fine and this is a quality rifle that she can use forever and pass down someday if she wants.
