What is your oldest firearm?

Not a good photo, but I believe this muzzleloader is from the civil war and has Ohio stamped on the stock. Apparently, the owners initials were S.C.

Looks like you have a after war 1843 suit down Springfield musket perhaps its smooth bore as most were there were some

looks like a after war cut down 1842 Springfield musket smooth bore more than likely there were a few that were rifled the cal. Should be .69 these types of guns were bought back with soldiers and cut down for use around homesteads if you look at the lock plate it will give you the manufacture and there should be a date

Thanks. It is a smooth bore. I’ll take a look at the lock plate. It is hanging in my hunting camp. I’ll also take a few more photos and post them. I’ve got another old mzlder (I’m guessing a 20 gauge) I’ll post photos of. I’d be interested in your thoughts on that as well.

I’ll do this in a couple of post. The first will contain photos of first muzzleloader discussed. The number on the lock plate is 860. The metal strap on the other side has the number 51 stamped. There is an “s” stamped into the bottom of the stock.

This is the second muzzleloader, actually looks more like a 12 gauge. Any thoughts about the age of this one would be appreciated. For some reason one of the photos will not download. I’ll attempt to send it separately.

And finally, a model 1905 double barrel hammer 12 gauge. I could not find a serial number.

My guess is its a Contract musket 1842 model interesting there’s no makers stamp on the lock plate. The other numbers could be armory rack numbers any markings on the barrel such as proof marks or armory inspector marks.

Here are a couple old wall hangers from the cabin. If anybody has any knowledge about either one of these firearms, I’d love to hear what you think.
