What does your taxidermist charge?

The buck on left cost approx $600 in 2012. The bobcat was done by the same individual as that first buck for around $900. He was an acquaintance of my Dad and Grandfather, and numerous relatives knew him.

The buck on the right was in 2018, and the fella who had previously been our taxidermist above retired. Took it to a lady who I paid $600. However, it is important to note that I had to wait for FOUR YEARS for that mount to be done, and only after it was expedited due to me moving in a few months. That one looks a little out of proportion perhaps, but that is actually how he looked on the hoof. He was only a 2 or 3 year old deer I can’t recall which.

The sheep was done in 2025 in Casper WY. I’ve not had the luxury of looking at tons of sheep mounts, but I think he did an excellent job.IMG_5781.jpegIMG_5782.jpegIMG_5537.jpeg

I don’t mean to demean anyone, and I’ve seen it alluded by others on this threat. I think that there’s a definite balancing act between paying for excellent quality, and paying extra for someone who thinks that their work is worth far more than it is. For the Sheep, another outfit quoted me over 2 grand for virtually the same mount. The guy who ended up doing it was less money, and I don’t think he was any less of a quality mount/service. He also had it finished just 15 months after dropping off the cape. This individual has won national awards.
