What is your favorite tree stand rifle?

Anything short of legal cartridge caliber with a suppressor. My relatively new favorite short rifle with a can is a 16" SFAR.

Once you shoot/hunt with a can, there may be no going back :)

For the last 10 years or so, it’s mostly been between a Remington Model 7 in 308 or Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 308. The 7 has a 20” barrel and the 70 has a 22” barrel but both have been equally handy. This year it’s going to be the Howa Mini 7.62x39 with 20” barrel and the Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39 with 16” barrel. Almost no recoil and most places I can’t see 100 yards so I think it will be awesome.

I’ve gone from 30-06 to 7.62x39 to 308 and am currently pretty deeply entrenched with 6.5 Grendel 18” platform. Got a suppressor I’ll be rocking for the first time this year.

I sat out this past summer to build a treestand/woods rifle. I had already decided that I wanted it chambered in 7mm-08 and sub 20" barrel. So I bought a Tikka take off barrel from the classifieds here on Rokslide, had it cut down and threaded. Spun it on a rifle that I had picked up used. Swapped a Stockys stock on it, threw a Vortex on top, and a Harvester Evo on the loud end. It carries and handles like a dream.

Please share pics! Sounds like exactly something I’d want to do!

what do you use?
Nothing, as I stopped tree stand gun hunting once I started hunting Montana! 😂

Sorry, couldn’t resist. I know you weren’t looking for that answer. If I were tree stand gun hunting again, maybe an AR with 77TMK

Here is a pic for scale of the compactness of my little 300 Blackout single shot with 16” from Traditions. It’s ridiculously compact and 300 AAC is super easy shooting but effective at typical ranges found in the woods.

16" ULUL bolt action AR. Last year I ran it as a .300 Ham'r, this year I was hoping to downside to 6x45, but there are issues. But at well south of 4lb, it couldn't be handier!

Either that, or my 18" Tikka .223
