Thanks for your replies and sharing your knowledge. I doubt I can find a carbon stock so I will reassemble in the original walnut stock. My first post here and after looking at the ste I thought I would get a answer. Thanks again. BTW it shoots very tight groups at average of 2966 fps with 130 gn sst over N165.
You can get a Pro Mag Archangel carbon fiber stock for large ring 98's. I have one and it bolted right in - no inletting. I was skeptical, probably just because it was so relatively cheap, but I gotta admit it is a pretty good stock from a fit, stiffness, accuracy standpoint.
Pro Mag Archangel Mauser
A couple years ago I completely re-built a Parker Hale/Mauser 98 25-06 that my dad had given me. He had previously re-done it with a McGowan heavy barrel and it still had the OM stock. The stock was kind of beat up and I was having some trouble with extractions after firing and ultimately decided the chamber had gotten bunged up somehow - so I did a complete rebuild with the following:
Barrel - 22" PacNor 5R/1:8 twist chambered in 25-06 and 5/8-24 threaded
Cerakoting - Gunner's Sport Shop, Oregon in Black Graphite
Archangel Mauser K98 stock - I rattle canned in a textured granite with faux ebony white-spaced fore-end and white spacer grip in homage to the classic appearance of the Parker Hale "safari" stocks. I cut/shaved/molded/glued a piece of kydex over the original adjustable cheek piece to extend it rearward another 1.5" to fit me better
Limb Saver snap on for 6-way adjustable recoil pad with faux painted white spacer
Timney trigger
Mauser Tubbs Speed Lock firing pin spring
EGW picatinny rail with EGW scope rings
Cortina EZ Tuner/Brake
I had it barrelled in 1:8 twist to use some of the new heavy for caliber .257 bullets that were coming on the market. It shoots the 133gr Berger Elite Hunters really well.
It shoots great - fun project.
Another stock inletted for Mauser 98 you might look at is the GRS Bifrost - when I was building mine I came across a build using one of these:
