What is the best sub $400.00 Rifle stock.

So I’m in the home stretch of getting my 6.5 Sherman short done and now I need a stock what are your favorite stocks for 400 and under. I know there is a lot of love for manners and McMillan they just aren’t in the cards right now.

Dude, jump on Snipershide or LRH if nothing in classifieds here, maybe post a WTB...but $400 for a used EH-1 is pretty easy if you are patient.

Enlighten me then, since you seem to know so much about the equipment that I own.

Quality of materials used. Long term reliability and repeatability. Fitment. Feel. Balance. Ergonomics. All come to mind when comparing my B&C stock to my McMillans.

McMillan only has 17 patterns inletted for Rem 700 actions.

For starters.

That wasn’t the case for me. Everything has been better with the B&C for me. Definitely haven’t not worth over twice the price.

Yup, sorry same for me. I’ve had the first one for so long I can’t remember when I bought it, but it was before i used the internet to order most everything. I heard all the excitement, saw the cool paint on the other brands and jumped in. They are great, I just don’t think they are that great for almost double new price. I don’t like the super deep thumb channel on the one I ordered new, the used one I bought spent tons of time clearing out the bed job. I want to put it on and shoot, I’m not into building, I like shooting!

I can tell you that my absolute favorite stock I own is the BC Light Varmint (Rem LVSF stock). I’ve bought a couple of them off 24hr for $200, man they are light. 26oz, great on my 260 and 6.5 CM 90’s model 700’s(CM was rebore).

Buy a cheap 700 for $300-350 from the 90’s of GB, put a used $200 BC stock, trigger. Boom, stiff stock tack driver for $600, with the bolt I like, the safety I like, stock I like, trigger I like. Zero wait for expensive rifle.

I just put a B&C medalist on my .270, it was a PERFECT fit, accuracy was Greatly improved (group size halved). I’ve been very happy with it and it looks and feels great also.

It probably did help matters that I had to send my McMillan back 4 times to get the fit right and even then it was about an inch or two too long. In fairness, it was for an exotic action....the Model Seven. Lol

I’d run an swfa 6x and a used manners/McMillan before a b&c and a vortex pst of any ilk.

bought an ag composites stock for 240$ Off our classifieds section last spring.

But no one can explain why a manners/McMillan are better other than “they are just nicer” ok, I understand they are lighter, etc, but are they any better from a performance perspective? Cause that’s the only thing most are concerned with really. They seem to both be hand layed-up stocks with whatever materials (Kevlar, carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc. ) with filler of some sort (solidifying foam I presume). The HS/BC at least have a full length bedding block, which can easily be glass bedded if you prefer, though I’ve never needed to do it with both I’ve owned. What justifies double the price or more?

You already stated it

Better designs

Lighter weight.

That’s all the performance I need to care about.

Can find an older takeoff stock for free and bed it. It’ll be lighter then a b&c And probably shoot the same as well.

Krg bravo is good value especially considering it has included bottom metal for aics mags.

But no performance gains. I’m not saying MCM aren’t nice, they are. Just not worth 2X+$$ FOR ME. My B&C and HS stocks are very nice, don’t flex like Tupperware, feel great in the hand and give me all the performance of MCM for a attractive price point. That’s all the performance I need to care about. 😉

Did you rebore from 22-250?

I got a 60$ 90’s 700 243 sitting in a 240$ ag composite CAT that’s in limbo.

Old grey beard said he could rebore it for 200$ which is tempting. 8 twist 7-08 be cool but 2.8” mag box not so much.

And the tikka 6.5 manbun are 460$ otd.

Haha I love the manbun name, I was trying to find a manbun decal for the buttstock just for giggles!

I Traded for it, I didn’t think to ask the original chamber, it was removed and new stamped. It’s the old nitride finish in 22”, perfect middle range length and balance for me.

I called about a rebore, seems pretty easy job for those guys. I bought a 308 ADL I was going to bore to a 375 raptor just for fun, but haven’t done it yet. A transfer and move have slowed things down a bit.

Yeah, tikka is a good deal for a quick shooter if you like them. I’m not a fan (gasps across the net, someone just broke their phone). I’ve had a few, great shooters. Just can’t love them, although I’ve been tempted by that fast twist 223, but then I’d just end up selling it cause it just isn’t for me.

I think the problem in our world now is everyone MUST agree with me 100%. Ok, I don’t like McMillen, Tacoma’s, tikkas, or SWFA and don’t need a manners. That swirl McMillen does is FUGLY, my wife’s RAV4 is way more comfy than the Tacoma and I don’t fit with a 36” inseam in either well, tikka just doesn’t feel like something I want to pass down, and I like bushnell elite 6500. Sorry not sorry.

But any way these threads drive me nuts, I only have $200 for a pack, which one? Internet $800 Kifaru/SG/etc.

Top of the line is both not necessary and not affordable to everyone. You don’t know their situation, help with their question or move on.

You don’t need 1/4” gun to hunt, it’s really not that hard. Heck a 2” MOA gun is just fine for the vast majority of people 300 yds and under.

But anyway, now I’ve reminded myself of the 375 Raptor I want to get done haha. I might put a little thumper rabbit sticker on that one!

As for the “help or bug off”

The goal was 400$ and under.

Heaps of stocks are at that price point that aren’t B&C or HS.

That grayboe terrain with m5 bottom metal in the classifieds for 325 is the OP’s huckleberry.

Or krg bravo.

Or as stated in my first post a used manners/McMillan

Any disgruntled McMillan owners want to trade those rubbish a5, or sako classsic let me know.. I’ll have a brand new B&c to your door by mid week. Same with tikka/700 inlet and eh1 or t4
