My vote would be for a garmin. I’ve had 1st gen instinct it’s about 5+ years old now super durable and does everything need it to. The gps coordinates are pretty accurate too that it gives you. Only thing I’ve replaced is a watch band still holds a good charge I can still go 2 weeks depend on use of the watch. I’m wildland firefighter and durability is great.

If you don't have an apple phone, the Galaxy watch has been working for me since 2018. I put a new band on it, probably every 8 months or so.
I am actually running a 1st generation galaxy watch with an iPhone. I got it used about 4 years ago and have been loving it ever since.

Lots of love for Garmin here. Fenix 5x here for the last 5 years , worn daily. Before I bought it, I read all the reviews here. It was important to me to get a tough watch that would stand up in the back country and give me some redundancy with gps. I charge it at 50%, usually 1x per week. Would definitely buy another!

“ Other than Garmin”

OP, to reiterate what a few have said, i have put my garmin forerunner through hell over quite a few years and still going strong. The battery life remains the best thing about it to me.

I know you said other than garmin. I had an Apple Watch and it’s not made for rough conditions. After breaking one and having all
Sorts of issues I switched to garmin fenix and the thing is a tank. I know you said other
Than garmin but that’s my take.

I got a garmin fenix 7s (small size) cause I'm a small dude. Battery last about a week. And I can track dogs when bird hunting. Nothing apple comes close to what the garmin does. If you want to read text messages and reply get the apple otherwise get garmin

I have a Garmin Instinct I’ve had for several years. It’s been my everyday watch since I’ve owned it. Wear it to work in concrete and it’s been excellent. I still get 2 weeks battery life out of it.

I also have a Fenix 6 Sapphire for my “dress” watch. I like it also.

I haven't had a watch in years, I just get by, who cares really what time it is, hahahaha.

Ok, I've looked at the garmins, do they work with Apple phones? If I were going to buy one, I want the kind that will work independently, and not need the phone nearby. I want it to work alone. Does a Garmin do this?

Two scenarios: 1) I'm on the beach, my phone is in the condo, can I make and receive calls from a Garmin? 2) I'm out fishing, my phone is back at the house, can I make and receive calls on the Garmin? I'm not knocking Garmins, this is really a legit question, I hate the looks of the Apple watches, but love what the Garmins can do.

If I'm hijacking the thread, my apologies.

Garmin Fenix 6. I've been wearing it doing construction for 3 years. Also while wrenching on cars and equipment and while welding.

No screen protector. The bezel is more scratched than the screen. I think I'm on my 6th set of watch straps.

If/when this one dies, it will be replaced with another Garmin.

I have been looking hard at Coros APEX 2 Pro.

Better battery life, GPS lock, and mapping vs Garmin. (I owned a couple of Garmin's previously)

I use an an apple (couple generations old I think). Pretty much only wear it at work. Don’t see a need other than that. Rarely care to track a hike or bike ride or whatever anymore.

The only reason I even have an Apple watch is so I can “ping” my phone to find out where my kid has hauled it off to in the house. If it wasn’t for that feature I’d be wearing a Garmin. Do any of the Garmin watches have this feature?
