What is everyone getting for velocity with factory ammo out of a 7mm-08?

I had to buy some Nosler 140 accubond trophy grade ammo recently due to no spare time to reload my own. The box says 2800fps and I averaged 2640? Seems very slow for a 20” barrel

Bet the velocity on the box was with a 24” barrel. If that’s correct, the shorter barrel will cost you around 100 fps or so.

Been a few years, but my tikka factory 22” barrel I shot mostly federal premium 140gr ballistic tips, magnetospeed average of 2840.

Seems pretty close actually. I load 139 gr with a mild charge of Varget for my wife’s Vanguard which has a short barrel and it’s 2640.

As others have said velocity numbers on the box are usually optimistic at best.

Without knowing what barrel that "20" barrel" is, it is hard to tell. Some barrels are slower than others. Some.. faster.

Checking the Nosler website, the test barrel length listed is 24", which means that you will get a 75-125 fps difference in speeds just from barrel length. Then add in other variables, such as temperature, humidity, barrel twist, barrel specs, etc and the results are that the speed you get is the speed you got.
