You’re thinking of Columbian black tails. Alaska (and BC) have Sitka black tails.

Great observations and write up!

Plane is booked for 10 days early November, haven't been on Kodiak in a couple years and WOW have the transport prices gone up! Heard that AvGas is currently $11/Gallon

I made it back to Alaska again this year, hunting Kodiak from a boat. I'll share what I learned once again to pay back those who answered all my questions along the way. Thanks again to you guys.

I need to start with my standard disclaimer: This is my second trip to Kodiak, my fourth trip to Alaska. I'll share what I learned, but there are many with far more knowledge and experience than I have. I do not claim to be an expert.

Kodiaks open views make filling deer tags pretty easy, patience is key before the snow. A lot of guys shoot them on beaches during low tide eating seaweed during winter. Cool pics fellas
