Have read up on just about every drop test thread that exists on this forum and have recently noticed that there seems to be little to no mention of rings used.

Is there any prevailing sentiment regarding scope rings and whether or not they’d pass a drop test? I’m currently sitting with the Leupold backcountry rings, will be mounting either a Maven or NXS scope in a few weeks in preparation for this fall. I would definitely sleep better at night knowing my scope rings won’t ever be a point of failure.

I think the default to not even think about scope rings is NF Ultralight rings but people also like other ones such as Unknown Munitions. Another general "vibe" I've seen on it is that Form doesn't like rings that have two smaller rail screws, he (and many others) seem to prefer one singular higher torque crossbolt.

Iv had most of the big name rings now.

I just buy nightforce rings now. They are not sexy, but they work and are well made.

This.

If I am on a budget, I will use the SWFA rings, but the NF rings are my first choice for anything with a rail.

I don’t buy any rings without a locknut on the clamp of running on a rail, not sure why we went in reverse back to the 80’s, the point was versatility to remove or change a scope on the fly having a single simple locknut, with current trends and the 2 or more small torx clamp screws I stay away from unless they’re cheap or it’s specifically a hunting set up with a budget scope.

I’ve had a scope go down and needed it off, it was useless, I don’t carry Torx wrenches but do generally carry a leatherman or pliers, that’s what I got the scope off with, marred up the locknut but got it off nevertheless, wouldn’t have happened with all the Torx clamp rings, they’re just less versatile imo and a step backward. So for me it’s NF generally or something similar.

NF is solid. I’ve had good experience with Warne Mountain Techs as well and their “low” is a little lower than NF if that makes a difference to you.
